TURK, where have you been? You said in relation to me," I am not sure if he is 'black' or 'while' or 'Gambian'." I have told everyone quite a few times that I am a white Englishman born and bred who loves Gambia and her people dispite big problems that she faces It is a poor country true, but a country where there has been peace and stability, even coups are not accompanied by killings and massacres, why do you imagine that people from all over Africa come to Gambia, because its the best place to live in peace in Africa.Gambia is so laid back that "development" "progress " or whatever you call it is having a hard time taking off,Gambians love to talk, so Mobile phones are everywhere!!

You said once:
quote: Calm down, Turk. It is not all Black and White as you would like to think. Don't you think if you were in crowded bus in the Gambia and your baby was crying like that someone might not refer to him as a "white kid" (or some reference to his skin color). We must not be over-sensitive to any reference to our color, it is only descriptive a lot of times, but of course you know better than I do ...
Sometimes i really confused what your perspective on issues. Anyway. Personally, I never like to give reference 'black' and 'white'. I would rather use the terms , European, Western, Afro-American etc. The 'white' Mansa refered was used in the newspaper. Toubab, may have been offended by it. I am not sure if he is 'black' or 'while' or 'Gambian'. That is another story. But Mansa provide the link, and 'white' is a reference used in the news by AP. Then, there should not be further escalation about Mansa's being stereotyped.
I think you should apologize for fliping-floping whether using 'white/black' is ok or not ok. lol.
P.S. I will rescue Mansa from the sinking boat. If you became 'liberal secular' and little pro third-world, i might as well do you a favor, rescue you and ignore that you are 'white'.

Oh, i thought you would realize that i was joking. I know who you are. I do believe you are sincerely interested in Gambia based on your postings here. Everyone looks for different things in life. I feel like more human, social Gambians give you more satisfaction about life than the people in your homeland. It is nice. Normally, it should not matter what your skin color or nationality is. I have friends who are European in Africa and things they have done and love they have is amazing.
And we have history. Normally, when you read in the history books in your country, you do not realize how bad things have been in Africa. You came Africa and experience, now you have different perspective. If someone refer's 'white' and you are offended by it and you may feel bad, because, you really love Africa and you feel like they are not fair to you. But it ain't easy to forget things. Have little bid tolarance if someone has critism because you are white. I know it is not fair, because it is not your fault and you have a sincere love for them. But, understand them, it ain't east to forgive. |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

Thanks Turk,I am sorry I really didnt realise that you were joking,a culture thing perhaps, all that you have said is accurate. I am still unable to fathom the postings of some members whether they are joking or being very serious I can only go on the words used which sometimes appear to be so intense as to be without reason,in such cases if you try to join a discussion you have to tread rather carefully in case the poster is very offended by your reply, this is the case in the "two major topics" of this bantaba.

Newstime Africa is a new entity to me,where did you find this source,it says its HQ is in London, yet it appears to be the only "newspaper" to carry this story, its probably true, why shouldn't it be? do you think that Newstime Africa is most likly under the hand of the Americans?
Here is a link to The venerable FT no mention here on 22 December about this.

It seems to me Dadis is deemed to be a danger to peace as according to the above excerpts from seneweb and the statements therein Mr Bernard Kouchner French Foriegn Minister his return might trigger a blood bath or civil war etc. |

It would appear that there is a strong link to Sierra Leone with most of the people of this online newspaper, developed by a backbone of contacts in webdesign and financial businesses ,this link
http://www.salonepr.com/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=124
is where I found my information, nothing strange that I can see just good journalism by a developed organisation, just my opinion of course, nothing else.
Here is some information about the HQ in London, all sorts of options here,I would suggest that with the webdesign background of the online newspaper, the HQ MAY be a "virtual office" (The first on the list link)
