Jambur this place has had many problems recently, and now this.

From The Point:
http://www.thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/woman-found-beheaded

Monday, 02 November 2009
A woman was on Thursday beheaded in the village of Jambur in Kombo South, Western Region, this paper can reveal.

An investigation mounted by our indefatigable reporters Abba Gibba and Abdoulie Nyockeh in Jamburr, has revealed that Adama Jatta, who is said to be in her 50s was reportedly beheaded on her way from her rice field, about a kilometer at the outskirt of the village in an area called "Sukoto," plunging the neighbourhood into grief and despair.

The supposed attacker, said to be one Sulayman Ceesay, who is believed to be a Guinea-Bissau national, is currently being arrested and helping the police with their investigation.

Piecing together accounts from family members, colleagues and neighbours, it appears that the man had been based in the area for sometime. Others theory suggests that he used to beg from one house to the other.

According to one Demba Ceesay, a neigbour and a family friend, it was around 8pm when it was discovered that Adama had not returned home from the rice fields, prompting them to search for her whereabouts.

He said it was not until 10pm when her body was found without the head, while some parts of her hands were cut off and roasted.

He said the head was not found until in the morning when it was discovered buried in the bushes.

He revealed that at the scene, was a trouser and a blue Khaftan, a knife and a pair of scissors. He added that while at the scene they heard shouts of "he is here, he is here," but the guy managed to get away.

According to him, early in the morning the villagers returned to the area to search for the culprit, and after frantic efforts Sulayman Ceesay was apprehended around Banyaka, some 5 kilometres way from the scene.

Seedy Ndow and Adama Marong, both neighbours corroborated to this narration.

According to one Mariama Bojang, aged 30, who also has a rice field at the same place with Adama Jatta, she was chased by a man she described as a middle aged man in a blue Khaftan in the same area last Monday.

Other reports also state that a young boy in the name of Sarjo Bojang was on the same day chased by a man believed to be the suspect, Sulayman Ceesay, in the same area.

Dembo Bojang, an elderly villager revealed that this is the second time a village woman was killed in the area, the first being in the 80s when one Sirreh Sanneh was killed between Banyaka and Tujereng, while Nyima Jaratou Bojang who was with her sustained serious injuries on her hands.

But he noted that this particular one is beyond imagination as, according to him, they have never seen it before.

"It was a sight of hell, if hell could be so terrible," he wonder.

He urged the concerned authorities to mount round-the-clock surveillance in and around the area to enable them do their work in the rice fields.

This is really terrible. One wonders what has become of our once peaceful Gambia. I heard that her heart was taken out and roasted by her assailant/s. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

This is really sad... the story does not add up. The assailant is clearly a mad man. he should be taken to Campama before any form of "vengeance" is vetted to him.

My condolences to the family of Adama Jatta.
Prince, from what you write you have convicted Sulayman Ceesay before any evidence has been presented and before any apperance before a court ,the crime is truely horrid no one disputes that, but the man Sulayman Ceesay alleged to have committed it must have the evidence against him examined in the open before a court with any witnesses appearing and giving testimony.IF Sulayman Ceesay is mad (mentally ill more P.C.)then he should be sent to Campama if found guilty,IF he is not mad then he should be sent to prison for punishment, the accused may of course be found not guilty by the courts.

I have a feeling that Sulayman Ceesay will never appear before a court and will never be seen again.

Toubab, i did NOT say that Mr. Ceesay is the perpetrator of the heinous act of beheading and roasting a poor old lady. All i was saying is that any killer who abandons their victims "without the head, while some parts of her hands were cut off and roasted." is clearly mad person- sorry, PC is too complicated for me.

I strongly believe in a fair justice system, which does not convict anyone in cases having an iota of doubt... because I am a strong supporter of the swift death penalty.

Prince, I know that you did not mention a named person but from inference Mr Ceesay is in custody for this horrible crime the reader was bound to think that you were talking about Mr Ceesay an unconvicted person, I was just highlighting that ANYONE accused of a crime MUST be taken before a court to be judged before going to the approperate institution.
As regards P.C. this means "politically correct" it has come about in recent times by a growing number of those employed in social work industry in the west that it may be offensive to call someone "MAD" or "disabled" the terms that the social worker industry prefers to use is "mentally challanged" for "MAD" or "physically challanged" for "disabled".(P.C. is also too complicated for me)

When the junta badly needed votes, they loaded trucks full of non Gambians to build up vote numbers during past elections. Some of them from Casamance and Guinea Bissau decided staying with Voter Cards as national documents. Lot of those people have been through wars and jungle brutality. All they can is do same things in their new found land.

This junta regime is a curse for Gambia. Yaya Jammeh knows what is at stake but happy to keep people in state of chilling fear.

Karamba,I wish that you could force yourself to contrubute to a topic without changing it into a struggle over politics.

Toubab1020,

This is objective assessment of concrete realities. When we examine situations critically, we have to aim at concrete reality in every way. You hate politics, I 'm afraid, I am no fan of politicians either. I have very open mind about matters at hand. This is a perception you may want to agree or disagree about. No offence to me any way.

Politics is not my way as you seem to conceive it. I have my own arena to trade in. No matter how much we choose to pay blind eye, the current reality of Gambia can never (seriously mean never) be settled without having to take the bull by the horn. It is the politics of Gambia in ruins that gives birth to all other ills.

Toubab I am not attributing this sad incident to the government of the Gambia but I will affiliate to Karamba's stance of the heavy presence of foreign nationals in The Gambia must of whom have no document what so ever and their past record are not known to the authorities. Crimes like such are rarely committed by natives gambian,e.g the human sacrifices, organized murders, armed robbery, rape are too rampant in the Gambia recently and must apprehends are not Gambian. So yes Karamba has a point there.

Rest in Heaven!

It is truly a mysterious way to die.

If you died a martyr, for sure you will rejoice with your lord in heavens.

The case of the mad man is simply sad and pathetic.

We all have foreigners in our countries, some of them have been in the UK for several generations ,most are good and law abiding but a significant minority are bad, yes, robbery, violence, stabbing, rape, and the rest of it.
This topic about the horrible crime committed by SOMEONE has perhaps left the rails and started to go down the road of critising foreigners,MOST of whome have come to The Gambia from other African countries where there is no peace, enjoy a country that has peace and stability ,vital components in life, even if there are few jobs.
I can understand your position, instead of derailing this specific topic it would have been a thought to start another topic with a wider perspective to be discussed,Adama was killed in a horrible way.
