I rest my case with the conviction that it is not for. Why should kondorong be important? I am just an individual expressing my beliefs. It is up to u to go on the chat lines. I have only used religion here to show that there is no compulsion in Islam. Which means, Islam allows you to think for yourself. I am therefore not condemning anyone's faith or believe. That is your personal decision to make.

I am not claiming to be a saint and therefore not standing on any high morale ground to look low upon any one. I have my own demons I am battling with. In Islam we are encouraged to condemn thing we see that will hurt our society in three stages. First, if you have authority to stop it do so. Second, if you do not have authority to stop it, then voice your opinion against. If you do not have a voice to condemn it, then ignore it and hate it in your heart. However, the latter is said to be weakest form of IMAN (BELIEF). ISLAM NEVER ASKS US TO FIGHT OTHER PEOPLE BUT WOULD ATLEAST EXPECT ONE TO HATE THE ISSUE WITH YOUR HEART AND PRAY THAT THEY WILL SEE THE TRUTH AND REPENT. Then again this does not mean I am a preacher or an angel. I am also a sinner like many people, but I always have an opinion, which I always express.

I hope you will respect my right to like and not like just the same way I respect your right to join a dating forum. Unfortunately, I have learned many years ago that there are non so deaf than those WHO DO NOT WANT TO HEAR and non so blind that those WHO WOULD NOT WANT TO SEE.

Serenata's example is a cause for alarm. Just because Gambian children are getting on the net to surf charting lines is no excuse to make it readily available to them. I can be as sure as there was yesterday, that all the Gambians who are on those chart lines will never allow their siblings to pose their pictures on the site and be prostituted in cyberspace. Infact, there is a very likely hood that datelines will promote sex tourism further in the Gambia a vice we have exhausted here on the bantaba as is happening in Senegal.

I don’t want to be used to promote the site and it looks like this is an intended consequence.

I must saying before ending my posting that at least the pictures are no longer available like it used to be last week. You have to register to get the photos unlike before when I visited, the pictures are the first things you see. That is a very good starting and please put in some safeguards.

Now that this improvement has been done and the dateline has become a secondary issue on the website I will visit the site for news which I must say he has done a good work and is commended for that.

I have always had an opinion in life and I always express them. May be that makes be very different from many Gambians.

Good luck mavric and hope you succeed in your endeavors. You are one of the few Gambians who dare to be creative which we badly need. I am not putting you down. I just happen to not like the dating aspect of the site, which is of course not the main objective of setting up the site.

I REST MY CASE.

No disrespect Kondorong and am sorry that i'll have to take a little bit of your self short gained pride but everything you said as quoted is inaccurate. Please do check your facts or you run risk of your character becoming a joke.

Let me break it down for you so you can understand.

A ) There has never ever been pictures in the Dating section as it was only launched 3-4 days ago. Its a new section. Not a single picture has been posted so I dont know which sites you stumble upon and see uncomfortable pictures, I can only take wild guesses here.

B) Since our site was launched from Day 1, you had to register to access any part of it with minimun age of 16, so I dont know what you are talking about at all. I think you must be confusing our site with an adult site. Maybe you ought to check your pc is not infected with spyware, they tend to pop up adult entertainment sites sometimes. Try this link http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?ref=afl_demoware

C) You really think we made any changes on our site for you (laugh), feel free to register and fact find with our 500+ members in little over two months and growing.

PS : Keep this thread Hot & Active, we've noticed a 54% (106 people who joined us from this forum) increase in referrals and a 40% increase in new registered members. Guess i now understand the old saying about negative publicity is good publciy.

[size=1]Hi all,

This topic is really getting boring now. Marvic i think u have done a wonderful job by bring the Gambian community and Gambian lovers together to talk about experiences and shared useful ideas etc. I've been in the chat room most nights and never onces heard the word sex or people insulting each other. There are alot of Gambians living around the world who have know contact with other Gambians but thanks to www.gambianow.com makes it possible. I think loads of people wont like it because its not a politcial website. Marvic onces again i would like to seize this opportunity to thank you for bring The Gambian community together. Well done mate!

Mavaric, I checked the dating site and found that you have to affirm you are over 14, not over 16, to register. Wouldn't you agree that 14 is pretty young?

And don't dismiss kondorong's words as nonsense. Seen against the background of increasing sex tourism to Gambia, you have any reason to stay alert.

Anyway, I wish you good luck and success; it is (still) a nice site. I myself am not looking for a mate, as I have already found an excellent one, but I will check the site from time to time and see if it changes to something like the above mentioned.

Like i said before, i rest my case. I have learnt business studies to know that i am being used for publicity as i said above and which you are confirming now. So Mavric, i smelled my coffee before you went to college. No viruses and no pup ups on my computer. they are automatically blocked. I have a firewalll second to none to protect my children from unsolicited mails. I made no mistake in the site. It is the same site.

There used to be a picture of one girl called MUsu Jammeh as soon as you enter the site.

To conclude, YOU ARE RIGHT MAVRIC AND I HOPE THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.

Sister Mariama, am Gambian & Muslim. I respect your feedback but object it in every way. Stop using the name of Islam to stop the progression of your mind as a human being. I dont know if you know of how many online arab dating sites are out there, from saudi araba online dating to kuwait. People like you just keep making up stuff because you dont like to move forward. Your old fashion pattern of thinking stays with you and when others are trying to move forward, all you see is the invisble barrier of religion in front of you. To put it in simple yet explicit words, stop talking ****. Anytime a Gambian comes up with something new, fellow country men or women have to try and beat him down.

Mavaric, what right do you have to curse at Sister Mariama, did you lose your mind? is being disrespectful to your fellow countrywomen the new thing in progression. shame on you

In a democratic society there are responsibilities..Democracy is not a blank cheque as is sometimes seen to be. In the United States, a country that claims to be leader in the rule of law, there are limits set as to how we conduct our lives. Infact they still have the dead penalty whilst Europe does not. Sometimes convicts are electricuted in the 21st Century.

Whilst, others have the right to argue with sistermariama, i cannot accept the fact that crap was " fed into our minds by our disillusioned elders in The Gambia". That is stretching the issue too far.

I do not like the basis that because other countries are doing something then we have to do it. We cannot be copy cats. We need to filter what works in our best interest and helps preserve the beleieves and norms of our society without ofcourse hindering progress and advancement of the gambian people.Certain cultures erode the fabrics of our society and this is not to be seen as being anti change. Secondly, just becasue in the middle east they have similar things does not necessarily qualify it as being correct. Political correctness should be judged in the context of our religious, political and cultural norms. Just because a muslim drinks alcohol does not give every muslim the right to drink. There are good muslims and bad muslims. If a muslim follows the teachings of his religion then he is a good one and if he refuses to do as expected then he is a bad muslim.

Piety is not in the color or race of the person, but in his act. The Prophet Peace Be Upon Him said so in His last sermon. NO ARAB IS BETTER THAN ANOTHER MUSLIM EXCEPT IN PIETY. There are therefore bad muslims in the Arab world. Infact not every arab is a muslim as most people tend to believe.

In Islam there is no compulsion in religion. LAKUM DINI KUM WALLIYA DIN ( HOLY QURAN). It should also be understood that not every human being is a muslim and as such have those liberties to do as they fit. However since this is a dating site, it is not in tune with what we grew up to know. I can certainly under stand the feelings of Twinky and Sister Mariam. Sex is a taboo in our culture and is never spoken of. It will take a while for that to change.

Personally, i visisted the site but quickly logged out beacuse i was not happy with what i saw. Girls posting their pictures in such ways that i felt uncomfortable. i am not sure if i can muster the courage to visist again. Then again it is left your conscience if it works for you. It does not work for me and i am not judging anyone for visiting the site. I am more interested in news and academia than anything else. That is my passion.

thank you, oh konderong, i wish you would write more and help out people like Maravic. i feel like copying others is one of our biggest problem now. some of us are so insecure that they're africans, they want to do everything the west do just to feel a little adecuate. i swear, us africans, with all we have gone thru, would not have survived if our people weren't strong and secure in themselves. i think its very sad that now, young people, my generation is so ready to get rid of all things african ie, our heritage, our way of dress, our style, everything!!!

The thing is, if you talk to many Gambians you see some "lost" in our world, and, like Maveric, dissing his own forefathers and fellow countrymen, or some see and learn to appreciate their culture even more, because they see the good and bad in each society.

The toubabs you talk about in your reply sound to me like they are the average, typical toubab, selfish, ignoring the people's culture(because only our way is the right way)no respect and understanding for each other.

Gambians who haven't traveled yet have a sickness that everything in the West is better and their future lies here. But as soon as they travel and get to know our world, MANY see the bad things. But most people have the decency to keep quiet because most toubabs are ignorists and don't understand how many africans see the West.So what's the point trying to explain....A proverb comes to mind: You can take the donkey to the river, but you can't force him to drink

The whole point is, once again, don't follow everything, think about what is right and what not

traveling changes everything, seeing things for yourself changes everything!!

you remind me of young gambians in america that i'm ashamed of. there is nothing kute, or crunk about being ignorant. maybe if you really take in what people like taalibeh and konderong are saying you'll see why they necessarily support this whole dating thing
