Jammeh has tried several Gambian women in the past prior to his failed marriage with Tuti Faal.
His marriage to Zainab could help forster a good relation with Morocco , but ultimately his marital choice has nothing to do with the suffering of Gambians in Morocco.I hate to read about the plight of Europe-bound Africans in Morocco, and I hope Jammeh could influence both Morocco and Spain particularly to ease this problem.

Isn't Wade's wife from France ? I know for certain Jammeh was going get married to one girl from Sintet, Hulimatou Tamba. I lost track of what ended up happening for the bond not to materialize. If the ordinary can marry wives from outside the Gambia, then i think is ok for Jammeh. Besides, love is also blind. In this chat room, we are sharing views with many other women intellectualls from other countries, could be their husbands are aspiring politicians, and even the presidency. We are aware of the fact that he was desparately looking, and i am glad he hooked up with Zaineb, a fair colored lady, who wears skirts and dark shades. With these sexual scandal revelations involving Jammeh being speculated and gossipped even in the statehouse, one would appreciate such a womaniser only to have a wife, and leave others women for goodness sake. The utterance that Jammeh married an outsider to discredit or disrespect Gambian women, is in itself a notion. Senegambia remains in the hands of our beautiful woman, and trust me, they cannot threatened by Jammeh's Zaineb-not beauty, not education (some), more so deeds. Besides, who will wish for Jammeh to marry their sisters or their family members ? Certainly not me. What i am thinking at a low level personal level, if Jammeh was married to a Gambian, he was going be good administrator, cos we know Banjul is all about loving our relatives, neighbors and friends. The only sympathy i have for Zainab, if she is also not an opportunist gathering materials, she will be widowed when Jammeh is persecuted, just like the case for Madam Taylor.Besides, i don't blame jammeh for his choice of musu-koyo. Sosseh si nyuneh "musu-koyo aka nyinyaa leh."

I dont quite agree. "musu koyo ballo ka koy, bari i buka nyinyaa tambi musu fingol la". Which simply means, fair coloured girls are fair in complexion but not necessarily more beautful than dark girls.

awa ah beh sifihsiya woto. "musu koyo aka nyinyaa leh" is only one side of it. The second part is "musu fingo aka nyinyaa leh". I often hear people say "black beauty". After all, "dahjiko ahkendehmah" woleh ning fulol beh bai. Im'beh si sung wola, kodih. Inin bara bakeh. I was trying to see the women promised to the believers in the hereafter- i mean their description ? May be Sheik Musa Pembo is reading this thread. sila koteng.

Kondorong:

You see i have a "musu koyo" myself (laughing), so i can't blame Jammeh.
But when he has a policy that shuns dark skin women and criminalize "skin bleaching" especially at a time he befriended Alieu Sallah who allegedly hunted and gunned down women who bleached their skin during the 1981 aborted coup of Kukoi ( this allegation of Alieu Sallah is not verified and may be inaccurate)crosses the line.

I think man ( humans) are often intrigued by novelties. Many African men's desire for light-skinned women is similar to many white men's desire for tanned women. How about that ?

Kayjatta, I wonder if your yardstick is very apt. Blacks have been and are still coloninzed by the light skins. Blacks aspirations for light skins can be ascribed to much of complexes; whereas whites aspirations for blacks can be ascribed to more of exotic desires than anything else.

You got my point Serenata ! But i didn't know Germans look that hard into a neighbor's garden ( laughs); my sister lives in Hamburg.
Bamba , there is no racial issue in this plain, simple , human appetite for something different; a variation.Matter of fact it might have been an evolutionary advantage because they stand out in the croud and are easily spotted by men's roaming eyes. How many times do we get attracted to Gambian women who are light-skinned( not white)? and I have seen a lot of American white women here who after a vacation in Africa or Latin America ( exposed to sunlight and tanned)experience increased attention from suitors. Is that not right?

U need to expound on your proverb, Serenata. Some brain cells are so tired in the evening that they may find it difficult to figure out what u mean.

Sorry for you, but what I was trying to say on the whole is what Kayjatta meant. 'What others have, MUST be better than what I have'.

I agree that in the case of blacks and whites there are different connotations. But both will see that no matter how 'exotic' the partner was in the beginning ('exotism' is not reserved for whites!), in the end they find themselves with someone who is nothing but a human. This can be a disappointing, but also a pleasant experience.
