Hmmmm ,did you just say good interview Kayjatta,The brother is a bit confused as to the realities of journalism on the continent. First he should have addressed the fact that ,lack of education and substance in their stories coupled with fantasies is the reason the governments are so repressive towards African Journalist.

Let me try to explain something to you Kay, Gambian journalist and African Journalist in the first place stop being journalists after a while and become politicaians, either they are sympathetic to the opposition or they tend to seem to join the propaganda ,thereby rendering their duties biased.

When a journalist starts becoming a politician ,he will no longer be a responsible journalist ,Are you following what am saying Kay, Baba galleh has very poor communication skills and his biases and not to mention the garbage he is peddling seems to be what he is defending ,Tell me one thing he said about the role the media is taking to ensure responsibility and credibility.

He will be a Doctor Propagandist eventually ,cos it seems his education so far has no VALUE. The brother with an MBA can't identify the problems plaguing his trade. May be he wants to just justify the lies and bogus nonsense meant to confuse the citizenry.

Lamarana should be able to stand on his own feet ,but like i said they are all cowards ,scared to be scruternized, Are you telling me that his answers towards press freedom was good enough for you.

The boy has very poor public speaking skills and it's evident through out the interview,he obviously is either clueless or just plain stupid ,i promise you that..........................................Peace

Moe instead you are the very confused one, the gentle man clearly stated the role of media in the interview"that it ensures free market for ideas and held governments to account of their deed"a point that jammeh is scared to death of.well said mr Jallow.

There is nothing absolutely gentleman about Lamarana my friend, first of all he kept mentioning the positive role the media should play whilst forgetting the negative propaganda they are disseminating. Trust me i know what the role of the media should be and i don't need a Lamarana Jallow to tell me that. What role are they playing or have they all become politicians without even knowing it. He sits there and ridicules the president, makes political statements and acts like a confused politician with an "Altopeh" like your self . I once told them that they will all render themselves useless ,which is evident ,he can't even fight for what he believes in or maybe he just has no belief, Paranoid shizophrenic's, worried about being on a non existent wanted list...........................................................Peace

Good interview by Mr. Jallow...

Okay let me clarfy Moe. I have known Mr. Jallow for a long time, and I have listened and attended several public fora where he made speeches about issues of national importance...
I also know that he has grievances against the APRC government that shut down, illegally, his newspaper business in the Gambia. He also allegedly continues to be on the NIA's 'Most Wanted' list.
It was from this background that I assessed his (Mr. Jallow's) interview with the BBC. Now being on the BBC is a great opportunity to damage, or even attempt to damage, one's opponents because the BBC has an international audience; therefore Mr. Jallow could have used his airtime on BBC to talk extremely badly (wage a propaganda campaign) about the Gambian and African governments.
Instead Baba Galleh Jallow admitted or observed that:
1. Media freedom and conditions in the Gambia and Africa have generally improved over the past years ...
2. The problems of the media are not just localized national issues; the problem is all across the board. Here Mr. Jallow could have singled out the Jammeh government and lambast it for its hostility to the private media. Instead he moderated that what the Gambian media is going through is not significantly different from what obtains elsewhere on the continent. The comparison was specifically between the Gambia and Guinea.
3. Some sectors of the private media may be less than professional.
Now you will perhaps agree with me that if this interview was granted to some other person, let's say Mathew Jallow,or Bokarr,or..., the remarks could have been more virulent and negative than those made by Mr. Jallow.
Baba Galleh Jallow, in my view, exercised great moderation in this interview. He tried to be objective as well as broaden his perspective like a scholar and academic should.

Now I have my own issue with the interview, but that is a small part. This is it: Mr. Jallow attributted the persistent survival of the African media largely to the 'new media'-that is the internet-based media (online newspapers, blogs, text and instant messaging, etc). He actually said that "you cannot censor the internet...". Even here he is largely right, but I thought while the internet is generally harder to censor, and African states have not been successful in monitoring and censoring the internet at all, the internet has been censored with varying degrees of success elsewhere.
So once again, I thank Mr. Jallow for a great interview; and thank you Moe for your observations.

I will give you a better answer tomorrow but meanwhile think about it. what about cause and consequence Kay, He was the wrong person to elude on the repression of newspapers. I doubt you would allow Kukoi to speak about dictatorship and good governance ,He is being judged by his deeds. Tell you the truth after what i seen these fools capable of ,whether his newspaper was closed illegally is still to be determined Kay...................................................................Peace

Yep that i have to agree with Madiss ,he is not that foolish ,coupled with the fact that he was not the interviewer , the fact is he just keeps defending something that cannot be defend. An irresponsible newspaper as he calls them, is not a newspaper. He keeps defending his cause and thats about it. The brother ain't been to Africa for god knows how long ,the realities on the ground is far from what is real to someone living overseas............................................Peace
