Old Busumbala lies on your right hand side of the road when coming from the airport. It is arround 2000 meters from where the market is today. I have hunted many a times there before with friends and elders during the KITIMO. Yes ofcause. I used to go their to visit the old Pa Ceesay Busumbala. I have close friends from there too like KUSEKE (DEMBO AY). Brother, do you know what caused new Busumbala?

Alhassan, I think a flood in 1958 caused new busumballa.I know more people in busumballa than you.Kuseke currently in sweden is well known. Ceesay busumballa is well known as well and am lucky to know the whole of his family.
Lets get back to the topic. Ask Kuseke or any one from yundum or Busumballa which resident is the oldest. |

salimina, Who are the first settelers of Busumbala? Where did they come from? Dembo Yai is a very known person from Busumbala. Who is his brother? There are others like Police Kebba. If you know Busumbala who was known as the crying prifect? or Waso or "krukol Simba". We must come to a conclusion so as to come to an agreement. I think both of us know Busumbala but with a different oral history. I am sure if you consult some elders in Busumbala they will sure sed light to our discussion. It is good to know your country and people. I'm proud that there are people intrested in our oral history. It would be good if we can organise seminars towards such cultural topics so as to remind ourselves where we are going. Many of us do not know how most settelments came to be. Like KAFUTA, BUSI A BALA and many others. Thanks for your intersting respons. A very good way of learning from eachother. |

Alhassan,
You know a lot about kombo and i am proud of you.The first settlers of busumballa, i dont know cos there are different types of opinions.Where they came from is another difficult one.but i understand that they settled in many parts of kombo before they finally settled in old busumballa. If you go to the university of the gambia former gambia college you will find a list of all their kings-all surnames are jattas.Any jattas in kombo;bakau(bakau jatta kunda, where dembo yai resides before travelling), brufut, sukuta, yundum, lamin,Brikama, gunjur who are not jolas originated from the indigineous jattas from busumballa.I know most of these jattas in respective towns in kombo.Do more research, you will find out that is one of the oldest settlements in kombo.Undisputed fact.
About dembo yai i think i know him more than you. Most of the jattas in busumballa are not the real jattas.Because in those days when you settled in busumballa even if your surname is ceesay they change it to jatta. That is the norm of that village. So certain jattas are not real jattas. Is only the indigenous who can confirmed that to you. consulting elders, no need because is a well estabilshed fact from all spheres of kombo.I know what am saying but you can confirmed this by calling any elderly in kombo.
Thanks for sharing. |
