SOS TOURAY DEFENDS THE JULY 22**nd** COUP D'ETAT*
*By Fabakary B. Ceesay***
The APRC National Mobilizer and Secretary of State for Agriculture, Yankuba Touray, has defended the July 22nd coup d'etat the Armed Forces in 1994. According to Mr Touray, before July 22nd 1994, the soldiers received D206 as their monthly salaries out of which they used D150 to buy a bag of rice and the remaining D56 could not solve their family problem at home. He noted that most of these soldiers were bread winners of their families and the family expected them to contribute a lot, especially in the education of their brothers and sisters. He said after July 22 1994, the ordinary Gambian soldier receives D1500, which can solve a lot for them, even though they now buy a bag of rice for D550. "I want the people to evaluate D1500 and D206 and they will see the answers themselves," he said.
OB1's comment:Judging from the above statement, Yanks has opened a Pandora ’s Box: Jammeh also received D206 when he took over and less then 10 years later, he is reportedly worth over 28 billion dalasi!!!!! That is a cool 28 million dalasi a year! On the bag of rice sold for D150 before 1994, today it is at almost D700 that is an increase of over 400% in ten years! Yanks, tell us is that progress?
SoS Touray also politicized the march by saying that "this is the nomination of the APRC Presidential candidate, come October pools and it clearly shows our victory."
OB1's comment: Well, Halifa said it...it was a sinister move all along. The march was not aimed at comdemning coups (because Jammeh did not do that--he praised coups). It was instead aimed at testing the waters of Jammeh's popularity. So FJC, Churchill Baldeh, Nenneh Macdoll you have all been exposed as liars by your own man Ynaks Touray! Piece of advice: (if you are to lie and be devious, stick to the same script!), it helps.

This is the ramifications if a bunch of stupid individuals in the form of soldiers ruling a nation.
Yankuba is clearly showing disrespect to the rest of the nations. Every Gambia deserves a fair share of the national bounty. It is not only soldiers who pay taxes therefore not only their lives that should be improved but the live of eveyone living in the country.
Your are priding yourself for a D1,500.00 salary but do you realised that is a transport allowance for some junior personnel in certain private organisations in the country. Secondly you cannot get two decent bags of rice out of this amount. You have nothing to bragg about.
Tell us how you killed Koro ceesay. That is the justice we are waiting for. Don't just open your big mouth and announce anything that comes to your mind. Try to be sensible and mind your words. |
