There has never been so much heat generated over the roof tops of politicians, civil critics and people of the media much like it has been this second week of July 2009.

Breaking News flashes have been broken into further pieces in discussion platforms. Politicians have been puched in triangular fashion. Ordinary critics have engaged in heated debates over some times trivial account of matters leaving out critically demanding issues for sake of personal fire power show.

Freedom of expression sounds like a catch phrase rolling around and each person takes liberty of interpretation to suit whatever purpose and audience.

Politicians, critics, people of the media landscape who are we?

Those currently occupying political position owe the most immediate obligation to face direct challenge from a population in whose name and resources they earn the food on plate.

People in the media consider it a role to inform society about what is happening in and around the public arena of business, politics and the national economy. They have created independent media units without recourse to public funds.

Some users of these media outlets believe that since they (media people) operate in the name of Gambia, they must be subject to equal level of scrutiny as those in public occupations like politicians and political aspirants.

Matters arising from factual reporting to accuracy of English Grammar become bones being picked and used as daggers to fight war of words.

At this stage, shall we be setting on course by scaling the level of freedom, obligations, for public and private accountability or keep throwing daggers as expression of will power?

Who is accountable to who? What are the responsibilities and limitations?

Not being a religious person but I do believe that we are ALL accountable to GOD and no one else, if you do evil things or make people unhappy then God knows and he will sort it in the end.

"Who is accountable to who? What are the responsibilities and limitations"

So Politics and unkindness better take care.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.

Toubab1020,

The regime of "accountability and responsibility" has been clearly demarcated on this occasion, in the region of politics, media, and their preferred audience. Sorry, there is no extension towards the avenue of religion. But, good enough, we are all accountable to Almighty, Our Creator. Once we trust and respect that, the benefits extend much further.

Thank you T1020.
