I am loving this present GPU body led by Ndey Tapha Sosseh. It has the potential to be the best ever GPU leadership in Gambian journalism history.

Shaka you know , Ndey Tapha is a brilliant woman and I think she will really take the Gambia press Union to a whole new level. Statements like the one she just made ,makes me believe that it's possible to tackle the pressing issues professionally. They have a role bestowed upon them so they better deliver as expected......................................Peace

Recent reports indicate a spate of arrests of certain press individuals following the above reactions by the GPU. An unhealthy development so to speak, the guys on the ground have such a formidable task and it is so daunting I just wonder why some people query those abroad for writing with such fury against the regime. If the writings/comments ,which can be seen as fair and quite mild opinions of the local press ;can attrack such reactions from the regime we have no choice but stay the course of challenge on this side of River Jordan, accepting the tag of cowards and faceless posters online. what cannot be helped most be endured huh!i have surely not missed commendations of their stance posted here but then one can hardly understand where others stand on issues here. We just have to make ours known and shut up period eh!.

I hope there is a legitimate excuse for all this madness. The fact is writing with aliases is no excusing for levying baseless accusations against people either.

The sheikh is certainly the most unpredictable animal in the whole planet Moe. Just when you think his human conscience is finally reactivated he goes back to being a robot. This is outrageous. Fcuking hell!!! Even God has his critics, why does the Sheikh have to believe he is above critism? I mean is he really alright up there?

Baseless postings make posters look silly and so any one doing so should note this too. However , I do not believe it is a bad idea to hide behind aliases and write, You see even Yahya himself camouflaged his true colors whilst in service prior to the coup as that was his best way of getting his goals achieved. So we too can mask our faces as best as we can and go on the hunt. I respect the view that what we write can be offensive to some readers and they do have the right to respond as they deem fit, we cannot control any of those reactions and what ever we get is to be taken on board as the hazards of the trade so to speak. The fact though remains that journalist do get picked up for writing articles which were deemed as unsavory or libelous etc, thus face the wrath of the regime via arrests ,long court cases ;you name it. These make defending his rule very hard . Honestly speaking I at times go to bed praying that I wake up to hear that all this nonsense is finish , either by him being booted out or him declaring an end to the madness , allowing people to enjoy their God given right to freedom of expression as he should. Oh God please make our President a loving person who treats his people with due respect in that way earns their respect. We are not his slaves nor is he ours, but sitting in that honorable seat makes it incumbent on him to give us peace of mind ,body and soul.Wishing a person evil may not be a good or Godly thing but desperate minds think desperately and so here you get all these wishes and prayers. I surely am not a mind reader and wait to hear of one who does like our own very president , but you know what; he is special and is endowed with gifts none of us has ever got. That is why he should treat us better than he does me thinks.

This is what i think is personally going on with the Sheikh,He has had so many baseless accusations levied against him that ,it has started affecting the way he reacts to things. The fact is too much negative press eventually changes and makes a person what he really is not.

All these disapperances should be addressed once and for all , establishing an independent inquiry including all the madia houses in the Gambia , collectively enlightening the people as to what really happened to these people. The only solution to this problem is to make sure no stone goes un turned and an independent enquiry is established.

The fact is murder is not something that can be buried under the carpet. It really does not matter how long the TRUTH is suppresed ,it just never goes away.

The families can sue anyone years after it occured...............................Peace

Kaani,I don't personally think there is anything wrong with writing with an alias ,some of us don't wanna ever be known. My advice to anyone is not to be foolish enough to even think about using your own name unless ,you are ready to stand behind what you say,cos it might come back to haunt you if you ain't about the right thing..................................Peace

Moe ,I really hope so too, that; he is seen as what he is not and that ,too much press has perhaps changed his demeanor. That; how ever is a very serious analogy, if it fits his situation, as he is a Head of State in charge of a whole nation albeit its geographical situation and size. The Gambia is a sovereign nation and deserves to have a leader/ruler who has his head and heart firmly in place to meet and solve all kinds of problems including that of press harangues etc. This is why you have the saying that "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown ".If the press are his only worries certainly he can be considered lucky because all he needs to do is allow plurality of opinions and freedom of the press , and his woes will cease. The press every where or most places are considered to be the watchdogs of government and if they are stifled the problems mount sky high as you get concerned key players calling him/the ruler names and the acts of continuous arrests and detentions do not help his cause at all,if any thing ;they exacerbate it.I really wish that he can change his style from henceforth, our country is a very small one. It's size makes it very easy to rule and develop, that depends a great deal on a peaceful environment and national cohesion. The press as far as I know are not bad components of our society, their presence augments our viability as a nation and they should be allowed to participate without any constraints, just like all other citizens can do in their chosen trades. Live and let live as they say somewhere is a very good adage to borrow here I guess.I really do not believe that there is any need for all these harsh control measures in place here and the less State interference with peoples basic rights the more peaceful the country becomes and the less openings for the press to chance up on as a cause for criticizing the government. They would engage themselves pursuing other matters as well as promoting the government of the day by highlighting their good deeds. But any time any of these pressmen or women utter statements that seem to counter that of the leadership , they get arrested for sedition and other such like offenses which have become really too obnoxious and can best be described as charades, a gross misrule by the regime as far as I can analyze with my tiny brain sat behind a PC without a face .I am a PC.Just to add spice , I commend the development projects he has undertaken since his take over of the seat of President, we do need them and so I thank him for bringing them on for our people. What is lacking is the freedom from fear , security of tenure of office by officials and most of all freedom of expression of dissent.we should be able to tell ourselves that we have secure jobs that we cannot be fired from at the whims and caprices of a president or other ruling official except where we seriously get found wanting in the execution of our duties etc.which action can only be taken without undue influence on those acting to get us fired ; by either political or other unconstitutional methods.

Personally i don't think the laws are draconian after what i have seen online ,and what people who call themselves Gambians are capable of doing. Oh yes most of these fools do it for political asylum ,others do it because it's the only way they can feel relevant. If anyone wants to be a journalist I would suggest they go and enroll in college and learn the trade. This is an insult to Journalism and writing.

Bro Kaaniba i live in America and i promise you NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is secure when it comes to Jobs, maybe that's the reason companies can restructure and visionary leaders are emerging all the time.

The arrest should never stop as long as laws are broken .The laws were enacted for a reason and that is to govern the people. The problem is not the press at home ,it's these cyber cowards calling the press back home cowards.

......................................................Peace
