Can anyone give me an idea of architect fees? Do they charge by the hour or for the project?
I have asked for simple plans with costings for my nursery project. How much should this cost?
I would appreciate a response to this.
Thanks

Hi Bev,
It is normally between 5-15% of the overall cost of the project.
If you are in the Gambia, feel free to wink on me in private and I can liaise you with someone reliable and affordable.
good luck

Thank you for your kind offer. I am not in Gambia, sadly.
I have been quoted £600 for basically 4 pieces of paper. They are the plan of the nursery and the costings.I thought that was alot, but now I think from what you say for a 10,000 project it is ok??? |

I presume you mean 10,000 GBP (£)? |

why not start here, draw up an idead of what you want, look at the pictures on the internet, plenty of people have built schools and would share ideas, a school will not be much different from a compound, 4 walls and a roof, think about it, do not make it more difficult by trying to work from UK to Gambia, tap into what is hand.

Ive got the plans. An architect did it in Gambia. It is traditional.
The issue is the price that has been put on the costings for the time for the plans.
It has 2 classrooms, an office, a kitchen and store and some toilets.
Plus fencing around the plot. |

I understand but what was agreed before the pen was put to paper, did you agree to pay by the hour, or on completion of the plans. what you agreed to is what should be paid. was it 5% or 15% if that is the normal so be it, but it sound high to me.
I would have thought a flat fee was correct. If you still think it is high, what will you do pay, negoiate or not pay
