Bookomereh dome
Ki dusa none
Ken do sa borom
Wahji yai borom
Ko touch sa anda
Fo demati feka nu yor sen anda
Suboba yai perta
Di yermantu
Lu jarr lolu
Kon mbog dome
Soma degaleh
Dingha tey tedeglumah
Man mi de kula bugala
Chi suma holl
Waye nak soma
Tegalleh suma bopa ak yow me
Suma bopa lai jell
Tahull bagne naala
Woorna Yalla yow sama haritngha

Bookomereh waye dome
Andal ak yarr ak teghin
Moyto nyilai jhaye
Teg la fo eggul
Degga nak dafa saf kaani
Kugnko wahk dulla neh
Hanna sufekeh ngha done
Kudeghu anda ak Yallah
Hamneh degah reka orr

I hitch on my wollof, but was able to pick some words. It looks like a family matter though, counseling to a relation (son/friend) which is the opening chapter, "Bookomereh dome" -Son, don't get mad at him/her. It shows you are fluent in wollof.

thanks, you will have to crack this one for us.

panjak!

Excellent poem. I loved it.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Do not be angry with him; son
He is not your foe
No one owns you
This statement is for you
He who breaks his vase/jug/jar
Every where else he goes he finds others keeping theirs safe
You then become the loser
Moaning your loss in vain
What then is this worth ?
Therefore son
If you care about my advice
You will calm down and listen to me
I am some one who loves you
From the depth of my heart
But then if you
Were to make me chose between myself and you
I will chose myself
That doesn't mean I hate you
God knows for certain that you are my friend

Please do not be angry with him son
Stay cool and respectful
Avoiding those who tickle your ego
Making you feel so exalted
To a station you have not acceded to
The truth though is like hot chilly pepper
He who gets told this truth can hardly like it
Except if he is honest and godly
Knowing that only the truth is certain

A direct translation , which I hope will assist readers understand the writings. I am fascinated by oral poetry as practised in Africa, as I see various poets on OBE TV and SouthAfrica Direct do their bit . It is never easy to translate the full import of such poems ,as their meaning could easily get lost to many along the line. Thanks for your inputs.

"eglish." I am sure that will get into the Bantaba lexicon as well Seriously though it is a fine poem
