Hiz Princess and Leomon time....for whatever reason you have obviously both decided you don't like me. This is supposed to be a web site to discuss Gambian issues. We should set personalities to one side and have mature debate.
Hiz Princess...you don't like Humanitarianism???? I thought that was what you spent you life doing??? Or am I wrong??
I am just one individual trying to help a few individuals and one village in a small scale way. I'm sorry if that offends you.
I cant afford to help on a bigger scale......

My post was to Kayjatta but I will respond to you Bev Like I said who cares about the differences between you and Lemontime?? I have no time for you Bev, you have filled your postings with smiley faces thinking that others will see you rants as humorous well I saw though that. This is why I choose to ignore your postings unless they are directed at me. I feel there is no need for me to enter any debate with you.
My response was to the double standards I've observed, I never said I didn't like you I'm indifferent. When did I say I didn't like humanitarianism? What I do in my life either public or private has no concern to anyone apart from the people I work with and for. No you are not wrong, however the difference is I feel no need to bleat on about how much I do, where and what I do and I certainly do not seek affirmation or glory from anyone. The same I feel cannot be said for you its that simple and that's what I personally don't like it however rest assured it doesn't offend me. I certainly do not see you or anyone else as a saint that I think some here perceive you to be. As for the being an individual I have no idea what you mean by that but haven't you heard the saying from small acorns grow mighty Oaks. |

Hello everyone, to register a charity in Gambia here is what you do (or my project manager did) 1 visit KMC office Westfield/Kanifing and ask for the development officer, they will look over your ideas and give you the guidelines. I had typed mine and emailed it over, but they rejected some and added others. All projects NOW must be for the benefit of the Gambia and its people, so they added a few paragraphs about keeping the nation clean, employing locals. This was good, they typed this up and it formed the MOU, articles of association, but my mission was okay. This can take a week to 2 weeks depending on you, your project and the wording. A fee was paid and receipt received. 900 dls Once this is done, you go to 2) INLAND REVENUE office in Banjul, GO EARLY, you visit this office to get a TIN NUMBER, TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, all GAMBIANS business or individuals need this for openining a bank account. Cost 25 dls.
This can take upto 4 hours, one manager discusses it with you/representative, checks the Gambians ID, one enters the information into the computer, another manager gives final signature, 3 stages, KEEP TRACK OF THE DOCUMENT. STAY WITH IT. ALLOW FOR LUNCH. 3) Go to AG office in Banjul, ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE, very helpful lady, Ena, she will give a final check on all the paperwork, with mine she found a paragraph wrong, it could be misleading, she advised the we have it re type. We returned to KMC office to do this, so everything would be on the computer official changes being made, not just by us, ALLOW FOR LUNCH, TRAVEL, MEETINGS AND PRAYERS. Once she has approved all the paperwork you pay 500 dls to the cashiers office, take the receipt back to her office, she will pass it to the AG who sign and approve it for you. This is passed to the AG clerk who prints out the certificate, it is then passed to another clerk who puts onthe red seal. ALL FINISHED. YOU ARE THEN A CHARITY/NGO GO EVERYONE DO IT. For me the cost in £s was about £65, but for the project manager, priceless. Time costs, forget it, money well spent. If you have someone you can trust, or want to help, then let them roll with it. Next step we open up a bank account with Trust Bank, I needed to be there to signed this and we paid 250 dls to open a savings account, credit accounts charge 50dls per month for administration.
Like I say it was emotional but it has opened many doors, NOT LEAST, people can now help a charity and not an individual. I left him with a list of companies/organistations in Gambia to contact for donations. NGOs can do this.

Back in the real world, life goes on, but for me it has made a shift in my mind. Focusing on letterheads, business cards, making a list of companies and people to approach.

I don't see the relevance whether you work for UNICEF or work alone providing the vision is the same it makes no difference its not about who offers the most or who has the most backing etc like the advert says..... every little helps |

I wish you well Jambo. Maybe with a website etc you will be able to reach a larger audience.
Are you registered in the UK as well or just Gambia? |

I hope others will do as I did, because I have benefitted, but the young man i have left in charge, now has a position, the income will follow , but he is letter writing, and filling in applications for funding from the various Gambia departments that offer help to grassroot organisations. He has a bank account, has been to so many official offices in gambia that he is reeling, he has three mentors, people within the community who have offered him their expertise, We are christians and the church have offered help to the charity, because they have that in their mandate to help local community projects. We can apply for a duty waiver letter from the right government department this should help with goods being sent to Gambia. SO IF ONLY ONE PERSON FOLLOWS MY ADVICE great, small ripple, big wave. |

Totally agree with you and what you have started is a hand up not a hand out. That guy has gained so much from the trust and confidence instilled in him |
