Sat in a hut Three legged pegs To hold a pot We pray that you stay hot
Daily moves see you churn Hearty meals for the family feed Darkened by smoky soot For the cooking of our loot Taken from the barn and the farms Keeping all happy enough to laugh or smile With bellies filled for at least a day
Now settled in cold abandon Untended for many sad days No churning action coming from your end Marks hunger at its height Adults and little children Steal nostalgic glances towards you Hoping to see you come back to life None caring to laugh or smile The pain of hunger making it's mark All around are skeletal shadows Of those you fed to be fat Praying all this while That you will become active once more But you stayed ominously dead Burying hope in gloomy silence and inactivity Even the mangy dogs have no strength To bark at strangers passing by Scenes of despondence From Darfur and diverse places Flashing on the world screen
