Castles Built on hope To display might Or dispel foes Lay in ruins Relics of the glorious past Now the shadows of their magnificence
Saddled with burdens Those that drag one down The battle ramparts agape From the wounds of wars fought Fraught with stories of victory Shrouded with memories of defeat The heroes long gone Have their names carved in rocks That they may be remembered there
Fort Bullen and Jame's Saw the passage of triumphant souls Some though had their's fettered Bound and gagged in cargo ships Sent to a distant land As bondsmen to work Woe betide the unwary Who strays too far into the jungle A sure route to perdition Witnessed by Kunta and other souls
While they sit silent today The castles of yore Played hellish roles No wonder they keep so mute Guilty of hurting so many before Now they bury their heads in shame As their records keep being read On the banks of the Kambi Bolong Sang by griots of McCarthy too Blaming no one at all For the acts committed then Just recounting what was seen done Many rains ago
