Each year in November when I go with the student trip we walk along the beach at Ghana town and walk past the beach bar at Brufut. I promised that when I was on my own I would call in. So we did! We ordered fish from the menu and the cook went down to the beach and got the fish and came back and prepared it. Fantastic, it couldnt be fresher. It was cooked in the oven in foil with lots of lovely herbs and spices. The best fish I have had in the gambia...seriously good.It was quite a long wait though, so it might be best to order and then walk on the beach..... We were entertained by the local medicine man who sold my guide and his friend some magical potion! It was supposed to make them good strong men (if you know what I mean!) They were very keen to drink it! LOL. Made from the roots of trees? Oh welll, if they THINK it works it probably does...the mind is powerful.
After this we went into Brufut to see Musa Sanyang and his family/ He is going to Gambia High School now and each time I visit he is getting taller. He took me to see a house that has been built in Brufut called Eden house. It is a guest house and it is very beautiful. i would like a house built to that standard, but much more modest. I want to fit into the local community..... I like Brufut alot. Musas family are always very welcoming. I like Ghana town, its very interesting and busy. I could imagine being very happy living there a couple of months each year.

Another day I went down to Medina. An engish friend of mine called Phil has got a house there. It is in a beautiful setting. I met Anne, an english nurse who has set up a clinic in the village. She treats people every morning for no charge. What a lovely lady she is.
I think the land around this area is cheaper...but it is a bit more remote for me on my own. It is peaceful, but perhaps too quiet.

When I am inland I am very serious about my projects and spend alot of time thinking very seriously. But when I come back to the coast I let my hair down a bit! I went to see a Senegalese band play at a club. They were fantastic, especially the older guy playing the saxaphone. He was BRILLIANT! I enjoyed watching the men dance too. I went to see a band at ali baba....they were excellent too.....more reggae so I could dance to that rhythm! One night I went with a group of rastas to a bar and a club...think I was the only white person and definately the only one not smoking weed.
I stayed out all night and had the most fantastic time. The music was brilliant and the atmosphere was fantastic. I also went to Destinys and to Joker on ladies night.

So I had a brilliant time. I had so much fun. I am not serious all the time...just most of it! I want to say a big thank you to all my Gambian friends that took me out and about and made sure I had a fantastic holiday.

Oh and as they say in England..the icing on the cake......The last few days of my holiday I met an English man......a very nice english man from Bath. Fancy going all the way to Gambia to meet someone from your own country. It is very early days.....but we get on well.

So this is the end of my journal from my trip. I hope it gives a flavour of what I am trying to do and who I am. I am in love with the Gambia and gambian people. I am committed to helping with education in my small way. I would like to have a property in Gambia one day. Also I would like to have a small business......Perhaps one day.........But aswell I like to have some fun! I always come home very tired because of everything i pack into the trip. Remember I did ALL of this in 2 weeks!!!
