Bintang lies by a creek
Scene of a lovers trail
One mean trick
Of a man snatching some one's betrothal
Alluring tale from time immemorial
The bride cries
As the groom dies
By the sad banks of the creek

Singing songs of love and lust
Bards and minstrels strung the kora
Repeating tales of wars fought and lost
Singing songs of lovers trails
Here a pure maiden morns her loss
Lying close by is a lover lost
Who but tried to cheat a bethrothal
This bride is left without a groom
Was it love
Was this greedy perfidy

Bintang by the creek
Where mosquitoes claim dominion
See a swat of intruders
Seeking to find that lovers lane
Shaded from intrusive eyes
Perhaps they can see
The two nondescript mounds
Marking the finale repose of the duo

Bintang creek cries for Masanneh
Whose bride cried
As he died
Hear too of a Loss of face
For which there is no solace
The bride too most die
Together they shall lie
Bound by a spell

Bintang creek!
Dark stream of water
Show us not your bowels
That hide a dragon so fierce
Of evil forces and bonds
Those that keep lovers apart
Stay locked for ever
Let your people go free
Let none suffer fear or lose face again
Share though your watery harvests
That the settlers can feast on
That they may be thankful for

As the kora player sings
That sad sad song
Little children play hide and seek
Under the huge mango tree
The fishermen come in with the catch
The farmer with loads of peanuts
So ensuring a hearty meal
That day to be shared
At Bintang by the creek
A sleepy settlement hiding in a forest range

kaani, this one is a Ceesay kunda tragedy.you know i always warn them about over-loving.
when a man over-love, he becomes semi-crazy. Masane became a bit too keen, amean, he forced the poor man out and he pumped bokodabo (money) and influence the innocent beauty, Fatou. would you do that kaani? amean, out muscle a poor man!
in as much as the demise of Masene Ceesay spelt sadness, he brought the wrapt of Bakary Niominko on himself. the niomimkas don't mess around with, well the ladies.
Thaks for the poem.

Surah- Ar-Rum 30-22
"And among His signs is the creation of heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge." Qu'ran

Oh thanks for the nice comments. Lalo kebba and other griots did make us live some moments with the past, I too tried to get us transported to that romance which turned sour. No;I may elbow some one out to get my loved one but perhaps I would do so ,who knows! Santa wo buladeh, you never know when you might be faced with a challenged as the one subject of this poem and the song which retells that story. "Kaano" says Jaliba Kuyateh was made in "Laaresh", in heaven. In other words we are not the masters of our hearts , they are being remote controlled so to speak. This is my answer to Santanfara who likes teasing .
