I am looking into these cheap calling plans to gambia, some seem cheap but are they, it will be from UK, any recommendations.

Cheap plans where you use prepaid calling cards I cannot comment on BUT over the internet using Voip (Voice Over Internet Phone) technology I would try voipcheap.com

download the programme and use a Voip phone, calls to Gambia cost 20p per min. SMS cost 3p! I recently discovered Lebara

This you use on your MOBILE phone no downloads this has the advantage of allowing you to always be in touch with your mobile on a pay as you go Sim card cost 19p per min to Gambia mobiles and landline! SMS 10p recharge to your account from £5,you are able to transfer your existing mobile number to Lebara no problem,UK calls to Mobiles 10p per min.Using Lebara there is no need to buy a Voip phone either !Check out their website.
I would say a combination of the internet Voip providers and Lebara would be the best SMS 3p! over the internet with Lebara 19p on the mobile both systems work well sometimes the internet based option can suffer from network problems,I have not found this with Lebara.

OK, OK how strange an advert appeared on Bantaba in cyberspace about Voip call costs,this link says Gambia Landline from the UK 4p per min Mobile 15p!
