Love Gambia, The
Flowers swayed left and right Near the sweet Atlantic smile Where love ever dwelt With living roots on sandy beaches Supported by running water piles And the peeping smiley African sun Casting taller and shorter shadows ashore.
There in! There in, love! Little Gambia smiles aloud To welcome a diverse world Of people –the nation of the Brown, red and colorless From its time of inception To the day of the recall blast.
There in! There in, love! Hate and jealousy are strange Hypocrisy is shun Anger is an abomination Love is a plant A neighbor is gold And that is wealth.
There in! There in, Love! The fishes, the people and all Swim in love and harmony In a true habitat Called Gambia –our homeland "For the Gambia, Our Homeland For the Gambia, Ever true."
Author: Dalton
*Color interpretation as on Gambia's national flag
Red -sun White-peace Blue-river Gambia White-peace Green-agriculture

Nice poem Brother Dalton. I just want to read the color code of our national flag and fixate it onto our recent history as it were. We were led to independent statehood by the PPP using the blue flag, that party was removed by the AFPRC who have a green flag. Can we expect a change through a party using the red flag. Red is a color most people fear but it could herald change in status quo and lead us to prosperity and perhaps it is inevitable that we must follow the color code as in our national flag..This is just a thought , perhaps I am being too cynical or may be spooked by demons thus making me see things in this light..... I ignored the white because it seems to be a neutral color.

Gambia our land of birth We pledge to thee Our whole hearted love To cherish and defend in peace and in war To make thee stand proud among thy peers In the comity of nations As thou taketh thine place at summits of grace Thou did taught us to be proud of thy nature Knowing thou are not small but great at heart Size being thus immaterial So we celebrate thy name Holding the national colors Of red white blue white green With pride as men and women of grace Till the end of time

Perhaps you read me wrong , by that portion so quoted; I wanted to say nothing wrong my friend , if you can read it wrong then I most hereby submit my sincere apologies.Toubab you do get deep insights on postings and lines of commentaries and so I guess I should take care of what i write to avoid falling into your web.Can you suggest a better word than neutral under the same topic please.Joke accepted but you know what You caught me with pants down literally speaking ; can you imagine that! hah! |

Bro Kani;
This is honestly a nice poem you wrote there. Had you competed when Jammeh was looking for a new national anthem, that would have been a winning poem. [just kidding!] & I share your analysis greatly on the color changes. Could it be an endorsement for Barrister Mai Fatty then? I don't think Kay and Mansa will let you here.
2bab likes to understand all the whys' and why-nots'. Once you do explain, 2bab takes your word for it and moves on. But for sure, you owe 2bab an explanation. |

Red is now the color of Gambia Moral Congress (GMC). By the way Hamat Bah (NRP now uses Blue when PPP was banned. PPP asked to use the colour afterwards but Hamat refused.
I think PPP is using White now. Cant rememeber. Just too many parties these days. |

| Didn't white use to belong to NCP? I think there is alot of irony in there! |

NCP was also banned and a s a result it was a free for all to choose. Both white and blue were up for grabs.
May be PPP is not white after all. Chey aduna!!! |

| Support for Mai Fatty eh! hem! May be that is true , I just thought the color of the parties play a huge part of the political platforms of our various political parties., That was just a thought.Kukoi's group too , allegedly involved in the Farafenni attacks hoisted a red flag. I hope people here are keeping records of all the flags being used. Blue then green why not red , frightening hue but may be behind that color lies salvation and for sure it is a color that my people favor to wear when fighting the devil, did any one miss the red garbs of the exorcists who disrobed or disarmed the juju wearing officials, ah ! y! patchi nongh! Some say the devil does not approach areas covered with a red cloth ,am I dabbling in sorcery why not!; it is a la mode big time folks. |
