Bro Santagfara, Tony Blair was a victim of a coup d´etat too. He did not resign at will, but was forced to by his old friend and finance sec thru an internal disarray. Do I hear a term limit in the u.k., Germany, swizerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Italy (do I need to go on?). Are all these countries not democratic. Will you people stop ranting and organise yourselves into a vibrant opposition to challenge Jammeh

It is the mark of intelligence to entertain an idea without accepting it.

Karl,

Yaya Jammeh had no good domestic training to know right from wrong. What gives him this false belief that he is OK as Crazy-Dent (better spelling for his brand of praise den?

In the look of things, Gambians will tell you they hate trouble. It appears Gambia is into deep trouble and Jammeh is bound for more trouble sooner than his narrow strip of mind captures. Mark this from date, such insane state of affairs did not work for Uganda's Idi Amin. Charles Taylor could not pass go through this gate even though he thought it was wide. Qaddafi with all the resources of North Africa's Libya found it impossible. Jerry Rawlings found wisdom of giving up. These are tougher fabric of tyrants but where are they?

Therefore, this self perpetrating scarecrow of jester has no chance of making it through. We are not in the stone age but space age.

Bro Karamba,

Caution must be exercised with the likes of these pariahs of doom. If for anything, I just like you, the journal and any other outlet or advocate respects anyone's views to be aired. The pollutant "kufing" aka 'yakakat' is a bad element of a decent society. In as much he wants us to believe he is a revolutionary or hope for Gambians, his bloody 1981 blood spilling must be accounted for. This ***** (kufing) will better be ready to face justice one day for the crimes that he committed. I think that such a day cannot be easily erased by such 'born-again' hypocrisy. He might speak like an angel to us but we know who he is.

Don't you agree?

Still, I agree though, it is letter to a president...

Keep them coming ...

D...

Quite on spot Brother Dalton1

It is as you put, that people be given a share of time and space when they have story to tell. You will notice the word REPENT came up emphatically in this very long statement of REPENTANCE. Kukoi and Yaya share something to let others learn from. When occasion is given someone like Kukoi there are dots to connect. Don't expect better Gambians buy much of the stock in that long text. There are still some fair balance of information that someone like Yaya needs taking home. Not even Karl Marx would throw away everything from capitalism. He would say " take from capitalism all that belongs to mankind."

Let Kukoi repent. That is still not enough to sell his political stock as 'born again' redemption.

Wise people will tell you that the reason we are endowed with two ears, two eyes and one pointed mouth is so that we can hear things from both sides, see from both sides and then speak one way.

Ask me how much this Kukoi stock I am ready to buy, there may be only little. That will not stop me from helping him sell his story.

"Speak your truth quiet and clearly, and listen to others, for even the dull and ignorant they too have their story." DESIDERATA

One day Yaya will have his story to tell and believe it, I will stand to defend him over his right of doing so.

Kukoi is spilling out so much can of worms be it out of frustration or attention seeking.

This is a wonderful world.

samba Sanyang is my neighbor. His brother (Gidom sanyang) is a decent guy. Kukoi was educated in my own village's primary school.

Mballen jam!

Gidom is typical Fulani name. I have never heard of the name used outside of the Fulani community. A Gidom Jola? I hope he knows how to milk the cows.

Typical Fulani names not used by any tribe atleast enmass are: BOIDO, GIDOM, YERRO, JAMA, DICKORY, JULDEH, WOKA, GUMALO, PATEH, NOPERY, and MOLI. To have a Gidom of Jola stcok is news to me. But i do know that because the Fulani are in the majority in the area, they have influenced the culture. Besides, Sanyany is a typical mandinka last name and th only place in the Gambia with an exception is in Foni.

Kons;

You are right that Gidom, like all these names you mentioned are typical Fulani. Samba Included also. (nomenclature- system of naming based on assigned rules.)

Their home village is Wassadung, which is just miles away from my own. Gidom is a school teacher but I honestly lost track of his whereabouts. In our neighborhood, others tribes can take name-sakes (Tommah). That's how these names get outside the fulani nomenclature.

It is this belief that the young Samba Kukoi Sanyang was very brave at childhood. He was very mystical, I heard. He would do tricks; magic and big time sturborness. He was far from being a coward. He saw himself as some one gifted with powers; and with that power, nothing he couldn't accomplish. It was only after the 81 coup that he gave himself the title Dr. Manneh, which he used to travel around un-noticed.

The Foni Issue

According to narations, former president DK Jawara was hinted by marabouts (fortune tellers) that his successor was going to be from Foni, so the old man never trusted even spending a night in Foni. Places in that area were not at all trusted. By coicidence, it happened that Jammeh is from Kanillai. Jammeh's patrilineal family in area are very decent and humble. They are known for healing fractured bones. Jammeh's uncle Baa Jammeh (employee at mile two) is the most effective healer as it stance now. Jammeh's half-brother also grew up in the area. that is Ansuman Jammeh. Kanji Sanneh's appointment was beacuse he was Ansu's guardian in the USA. Ansu now is the head of the Jammeh Foundation.

It happened that Dino Hydara, the sheriff in Wassadung was also ousted from the 'sitting-mat' by Jammeh, after he did a 'listahar'/night guidance prayer that foretold of seeing Jammeh as an evil omen; that the people of the area needed to sacrifice something to rescue themselves from such an omen. As it stands, Wassadung and the Fonis around -still a target.

But to say it in black ink, Foni is one of the most loyal places to any sitting president. Even to Sir Dawda. That's why I always disagreed that the Jolas of Foni are not at all playing tribal games; Jammeh might have tribal favortism in him, some extreme complexity and hate towards other tribes, as noted in his appointments. On the other hand, the Jolas of foni also have some pride in a Jola President; a way to uplift their status, and the mentality that stocked the land for so long. I have many friends & relatives there in Wassadung. During wrestling competitions, soccer matches or local festivals, I have always visited there. Kukoi used to have a half-brother, much similar to him in sturborness, but I lost track of him as well.

Samba is common name among many tribes in the Gambia and thats why i did not include it. You are right that Foni has always been a big supporter of PPP government. If we extrapolate that now, then Foni is doing just what it had always done - support a sitting President. Well there aren't many presidents to proof this hypothesis correct. So for now, i will hold my brief on that.

How did he have the name Kukoi. Samba may be from the Fulani neigbors but Kukoi (a mandinka word meaning something very clear) is not clear to me. Please help.

I can easily find out. May be not so soon but inshallahu, will post on it here sometime. Mind you though, there are equally many Mandinkas, just like the Fulas and Jolas. I won't be surprised that it is a nick-name for being mysterious/sturborn at a young age.
