Observation: Santafara, I thought Hajj is the 5th pillar instead of the 4th as you mentioned in your interviewer's comment section. Any clarifications in case I am wrong? |

Okay that is the price for not listening to my 'ustass'. Thanks for that clarification anyway Santafara. I have been good, just a little upset that someone tried to hit my president with size ten shoes ... |

BJ. Generally Muslims do not take Hajj seriously because in a number of Muslim communities the youth who form a significant population feel they are young and need ‘to enjoy life first, perform hajj, reform and remain steadfast. Another assumption is; Hajj is a privilege of the rich, therefore exclude themselves from Hajj. Of course if one can plan and target-save he becomes eligible.
I have little doubt here, If we goes to some analysis then the youth goes to hajj Today's than before. they are in more better financially conditions than before and that in more bold for doing so .Whether it is halal is another question, that's why I do prefer to know where the money come from even if it sound strange. |

Mbay, you are right in your observation many young people are going on hajj than old people. but that applies to other national not Gambians. I was concentrating on the mindset of the average Gambian young muslim who is willing to pay for every body except themself.

Santafarais this information correct? I think this is what my "ustass" taught me, in the order of importance: 1. believe (Imaan) 2. prayer (salaat) 3. fasting (shaum ramadan 4. alms (zakat) 5. hajj (pilgrimage)

kay, the numbering between fasting and hajj is interchange by many scholars. but the most quoted form is the one you mentioned that is hajj being last. see this link http://www.islam101.com/dawah/pillars.html your oustass as well my karamo are right is placing hajj last as this means financial and physical capability whilst fasting has constraint but even poor people can belabor to do it. so yes, technically hajj is last. |
