Take a look and see the tears Flowing endless from my eyes Moving like a stream across the slopes of my sad face These tears of sorrow Evoked by the sad mad loss of hope and joy
Yesterday's child was out to play Now he lies dead and so innocent Whiles he played others sort to end his joy With smoking guns the drunken soldier shot him dead
Reading the columns I can glean some callous rantings Blaming the dead For being idle Praising the sordid killers For a job well done That is to stop the child from being idle
See my eyes so red I cannot stop crying I cannot stop mourning The sad loss of a life Yet some question the endless sorrow Strange ways emerging in the land That land which once was proudly Called the smiling coast

I like that poem Kaanibaa. "...the slopes of my ...face"; "that land which once was called the smiling coast". These are great expressions, I think. Is the Smiling Coast no more? What has happened to it? This poem captures the dramatic transformation of the Gambian's political and social life since 1994. Thanks for a great job ...

I thought the the poem was merely about the April 10 and 11 and the postings and comments following the tragic incident. Whichever, your words are nicely put.

Yes thanks again, with a very heavy heart I reminisce about those days gone past when we used to be so very nice to each other , words like the Gambia No Problem! had meaning even if some liked to joke about the factuality of such a citation about our disposition to being laid back, so accepting and so accommodating in many ways.More heartbreaking though is the stance that some take on the issue of rampant loss of life especially of our young brethren as excusable on the part of the powers that be.What cannot be stopped is the heart beat of pain of those who lost their children and we surely shall remain in morning about the dastardly act of the soldiers on that fateful day. There were demonstrations in the past but the level of brutality on this occasion is unsurpassed . May the souls of the children rest in peace and may their parents have the fortitude of bearing the pain and surely they shall never be forgotten.

"Endless sorrow" is a sad tale. The picture (color) of the writing, red, indicates some form of oozing blood. If you are like me, you are sensitive greatly to it. The author described a situation where kids were involved. These kids were killed which resulted in tears dripping furiously. The killers look like trigger-happy individuals as it would that the dead (victims) be blamed for their departure. In the end, the author hinted that it happened in the Gambia (known to be the smiling coast.)
It is my humble opinion to add that they (the victims) deserve true justice, as well as their family members and friends. hopefully, some day....reality will get us there.
