Shiny Black Gold
By Yero Jallow Down the paths and down the steeps we came across heaps into the skies millions of them pegging into clear skies heaps of shiny black gold illuminating the world -that be the long awaited comforter to prove that black gold do exist just like it existed from the time of creation.
Among the million heaps of gold aloft tears rolling down memory facial cheeks for an original sin of human kind both the sinners and saints crying joy as the sun lightens from the east marking a new dawn for the world like the historic dawns down memory lanes
Beautiful thick ebony skin of flesh to be the leader of an era this wide not since time immemorial has a similar miracle descended as mercy and hope to humanity from God Almighty, (doer of whatever He wills) raining bliss on mother earth in another life time.
At last! Behold! Hope for my two lovely kids that the world will be a better place as time flies I no more have to fear dying young while groaning in the graveyard for Blackman's future that people of all colors are truly equals before God Obama has shaped the walk-way path now and for generations to come.
Ode to that colorless Obama! Ode to that America of hope!
Commentary: The poem above is a tribute dedicated to Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Esa/Jesus (PBUH), Barack Obama, Congressman Keith Ellision, John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X (Malick Al-shabaq), Kwame Nkrumah, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglas, Rosa Parks and to all those that deserve its true crown. The new dawn of president-elect, Barack Obama has inspired this poem of mine. I thank God Almighty for having me witness this historic moment. The long journey has proven one thing; loud and clear that all humans are created equal before God. The American people have done history for themselves here. The historic moment is truly moving and inspiring. Congratulations to Barack Obama, president-elect, USA. I hope and pray God Almighty will make him as a special mercy for all humanity, i.e. as the one to unite all the nations -that peace, tranquility, tolerance and acceptance will prevail among humanity.

That was a fitting poem. Good job. I like to write poetry but not good at it. I must say that i feel jealous whenever you send in your poems on Bantaba. I wish i could write one. Any suggestions please? |

Kons;
thanks for the compliments always and I am truly humbled, but it didn't seem to me that it is a mighty poetry/bashing- just simple words expressing my thoughts on a historic day like today. for the poetry lines, i owe one Edu Dalia, my primary school teacher who started us into it that early in life, where we learnt how to memorize and bash on lines.

By the way, i also agree with you entirely on your lengthy analysis above. He will of course be another American president, promising as the 'Jeseshua' of the touch to the promised land. Barack's victory is a milstone achievement for the Blackman in history. At least, an emotional fitting moment. Just as Colin Powel said, He is American first, everything else second. With my own observation of your interaction and from what I heard your friends say about you, you might as well be groomed for Gambians for more rainy days. That will more an Obama for us(Gambians), than theirs in Obama.
Mighty kondorong must never be jealous, not even in admirational jealousy. as you fly into the skies, just fit me onto your wings. The day you fail to be a teacher here, I will fail to be a student. May be kay, kaniibaa and the others can help you bash lines.
Always, Dalton

| Why is Angela Davis always forgotten? During the 60ths she was a civil rights proponent associated with the Black Panther Party, she was an icon and a great inspiration for especially women all over the world. (So much that we even wanted to copy her hair!) Has her contribution no relevance today? |

| Bro Dalton, that was a very nice poem for scoring points about the feel good atmosphere , the trance like atmosphere of all that witness this memorable occasion.surely when man landed on the moon it was cause for celebration as it was considered unattainable by man before then.So too was the issue or idea now come true of a black president of the USA.Dreams and visions of the civil rights movement now came to fruition and a rainbow of colours jubilated the incident, some crying some outright hysterical but an occasion which you so aptly captured in this your poem. Thanks for sharing the joy of such a mighty accomplishment, hail USA! hail the democratic credentials of the great people of America. May I just add a prayer that the Almighty God protects this icon of our times from all that is harmful, broadens his mind and wisdom so that he achieved wondrous things for his people , American first and the whole world for that matter amen |

Kiwi,
Thanks for bringing up her name. You should write more to educate this forum about her. That's how everyone else can pick it up from there.
not at all, will the many names be forgotten. It was similar when the daughter to the late Steve Biko, complained that her dad's name was almost forgotten in South Africa. Everyone knows that Steve Biko. (acted by Danzel washington.) |

Angela Davis was on the headlines all over the world as well as she was on FBI`s most wanted list in 1970 when a gun registered in her name was used in the attempted escape of ”Soledad Brothers” from a prison during which a judge was killed. Angela went underground, was captured two months later and eventually acquitted of all charges.
Eight years later I read her autobiography as a part of studies, I was supposed to report for my reading and let the others guess who the person was. With the exception of my lecturer, no-one did. I am not good at remembering details thirty years later but Angela was born in Alabama where she herself experienced racial discrimination. As she was a clever student she was sent to New York for further studies, later on she studied in Waltham University and in Frankfurt, Germany. She early became a controversial activist in different fields – she was a radical feminist and activist, a member of the communist party, associated with the Black Panther Party, the Black Power movement, was the chair of a defence committee formed to free “the Soledad Brothers” and a lot more. By the time for my reading, she was a teacher at UCLA an is now a professor and has made a tremendous career.
There is a lot about Angela Davis on the net, I would like to enclose one link – for the great picture! http://drum.ncat.edu/sister/davis.html

Thanks Kiwi, for insisting that all the nice GentleMEN here take notice of this important woman. Martin Luther King and other male African American leaders have my deep respect, but I am getting tired of the constant praising of MLK, Obama, etc. here.
Some years ago it was Professor Angela Davis who opened my eyes for the incredible perversity of the American prison system. I couldn't believe what I read on her website about the commercialisation of the system itself, and the exploitation of the US prisoners. Pres. Obama should change this system as soon as possible. |

If we don't do it, nobody will do it, right! Men are too occupied with self-admiration; it seems that they are blinded by the shine of their own glory... |
