A Gambian lady friend who was at university here in the UK was made pregnant by a fellow Gambian who was here in the UK in the British army and serving abroad He denies he is the father. My questions are
1/ As the child was born in the UK is the baby entitled to British citizenship
2 /How can one get a DNA test done to prove he is the father
3/ Once DNA test done how do you go about getting the father to pay child maintenance?

Is the lady able to apply to the CSA for child support cos if she is and the father denies he is the father, then they can sort out a DNA test...........and if he is the father then they will make him pay child support....Not 100% sure of British citizenship but I would of thought so
Good luck to your friend.

Child support isn't a recourse to public funds, she should be able to apply for it. IF the man is the father, he will be liable to pay for it. Usually, his earnings will b deducted to pay for the child's upkeep.
Any local women support group or the internet should be able to give her a detailed guidance on how to go about the process. |

Hi, I don't think the baby will automatically get British citizenship as your friend was (is?) on a student visa. The automatic birth right was removed in the 1980's. However, if the father gets his citizenship by serving in the British army then perhaps your lady friend can try getting the CSA involved and take it from there .... one good thing about him being in the army is that the CSA should be able to find him and get child support taken from his wages before they even hit his bank account.
Hope all goes well for her and her baby now and in the future.

answers 1) born in UK of foreign parents not eligible for british citizenship, he woul dhave to attend a certain nubmer of school years establish residency 2)DNA, you will have to get a test kit from a medical practioner, it has to be a recognised test and the parent has to give consent, otherwise it would be declared null. 3 if the dna is positive you have to persuce there the legal channels, i have heard of anyone getting any legal help or finanical aid for this. |
