As Gambia has no Government website (proper), I want to offer my time and expertise to establish a government portal on volunteer base. I need other volunteers and government contact. The site can have government directory, documents, forms, etc... Anyone interested in working as volunteer. Here is the skill set I am seeking. If you have one of them and interested in taking some duty discuss here.
- Good Communication Skills (English) - Experience in Public Management, Law, Politics - Basic HTML, web development, database management
Also anyone who may not have above skills but willing to help and have time welcome. Most important we need some Government Contact. If anyone is friend of Mr. Jammeh, that would be great.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

this site is perfect example of how 10 years old child can do better site. No, maybe 7 years old. What is that, is this some kinf of joke on this age? Oh, by the way, prime minister of Canada, Jean Joseph Jacques Chrétien - Canada retired for how long? |

Your desire to help provide a better gov't website is highly welcomed.
However saying that a 10yr old could do better job is an exaggeration i guess. The two major flaws that i have noticed on this website are NAVIGATION and ACCESSIBILITY. The NAVIAGTION is not helpful becos of its location. As far as i know in the principles of good design, the naviagation bar should be located where it could be easily found at anytime and anywhere on the website. ACCESSIBILTY is affected becos i can see that in choosing the colours people with sight disabilities are not catered for. If in the UK one could easily be used for the contravention of the disability act.
A smaller flaw is the incomplete updates as you mentioned. Bt in terms of information provision the Chertien link is still valid.
So please dnt hire 10yr olds becos seriously they would not do a better job Besides the above i have not seen anything wrong wit Jammeh's site. |

I commend you turk,
it may be wise to voice your concerns to the Gambian Ambassador - if he will listen. If you put gabage in, you get gabage out that's what my I.T. tutor used to say. |

chretian is no longer working. He is fishing at the moment. Anyway, your critism is valid but there are a lots of things wrong with this web site. The reason I want to do this, because, recently I want to do some government transaction, it is impossible find information. Even phone numbers. I found the yellow pages of government directory, I call customs, i talk the vice president of Gambia, I call health, i talk to foreign ministry.
Jack
Thanks for the link. This one is more and more convincing me that gambian government needs some serious help.

I agree Turk, but i guess there is also an attitude to change.
Some while ago i needed some information from the NEA (not NIA lol), the national environmental agency. Not very secret information and nothing they have to search for. I wanted to know if the incineration plant in Tujereng is operational yet, or when it was forseen.
I mailed them 3 times and did not get any answer at all. The last time i told them why i needed that information (was about the waste management system for Banjul), but still no reaction at all..
So websites, emails and so on are one thing, an attitude to answer is another one.
Succes, however i think this initiative should come from the gambian administration. As long as they are not ready for it I fear it will not work.

You are right. That is why I need the government to be part of such initiative. My assumptions, the government of gambia does not have the technical/business knowledge to provide such service that is what I am willing to provide. But the content, attitude. So I will provide the tools for them to serve better. Obviously, I can't help them if they want to serve or not.

OK, firstly, this is not a personal attack on Turk so please don't try to turn it that way .....
On reading this I sort of thought it was a joke, I mean who would call the president of a country (even if you actually lived in that country) to tell them that their official website is rubbish or even to expect that their call would actually be put through in the first place??
But what I find even funnier is the lack of response from the usual folk decrying how the 'west' shouldn't be getting involved in internal Gambian(read African)affairs, how colonialism is over, blah, blah, blah .... how come
I've been tempted many a time to comment on the sometimes shockingly poor quality of writing to be found in the Daily Observer and other Gambian newspapers. Spelling mistakes, poor grammar and primary school-level reporting definitely jar but I could guarantee you that there would be a huge outcry and lots of 'how very dare you's' if I did. Is it coz I isn't muslim (in the style of Ali G here )???? Do tell! |
