The question for me is how then do we get these tyrants dealt with, seeing that African Heads of State in their cabals never endorse any sanctions which they see as being imposed on Africa.

Dispite the tragic topic under discussion on bantaba it has had the effect of prompting a full discussion of the thoughts of various members without the usual entrenched attitudes that have for too long formed in isolated interchanges between established groups, ideas have come forward that are now being thought about "outside the box" I am not a person who has indepth knowlege of anything, all I know is that it completely wrong for anyone to hold onto ,or obtain power by killing other people by the thousands, such prime movers of this way of doing things MUST be dealt with in some way or other, the only established way of doing that is by a court, the power of which is recognised by all.
Mansasulu said "Since these political unions and institutions are inherently corrupt "
Lurker said "big 5, G8, Eu, Au..all pretty meaningless when it comes to dishing out justice. self-justice is the primary pathway, but of course, it does not work, as the leaders create their own judiciaries , who are as corrupt as their masters and dependent on them.
bearing in mind how historucally corrupt all political unions have been, who is then going to police the police?...the Hague!

I would say that these two quotes are similar, Progress on the topic under discussion ? I hope so.

Guys and gals, the different is Blair committed his crimes but left office. Bush commits his crimes and leaving office soon. So Bush and Blair give chance to other people to correct their wrongs.

The African leaders want to die in office and not only that, they want to kill and maim as many people as possible. Did you guys see Mugabes mansion. I will forward photos for you to see. It is absolutely rediculous for him to live that kind of a life in a dead country and people.

So again, we can point fingers, but our African people are weak and cannot defend themselves atleast not under current circumstances. Economically and politically they are handicap and their leaders keep sucking their blood.

Bush and Blair took the war to other people. Not their own people you got that. Can't anyone see that these leaders Bush/Blair values the lives of their people more than others? Why can't our leaders open their eyes and see. They are what our people are and at this time, it is surviving on dead people walking alive.

My African brothers/sisters please lets love our people. These leaders should be condemn regardless of external influence. I hope you understand.

Kay are you that much assimilated?

Madis, it is not really about assimilation. Iko yiri kunto si meh baatu barri te kela bambo te.
However, Al Bashir is a criminal intent on cleansing Sudan of the Black animist, christian, and Muslim southern Sudanese. Southern Sudan has bled for too long in the hands of Omar Al Bashir. Despite the fact that we share the Islamic faith with him, his conduct is despicable and he needs to pay the price for it.
Bush and Blair on the other hand are reacting to the war started by terrorists (without a cause) who go around the world killing innocent people ...

Bush and Blair have created more terrorism in this world and I think itīs very easy way out for them to just leave the office. I would like to see them in court, or why not in Quantamo? Let the world see some videos of them naked, dragged on the floor and p..d on. No, forget about the last one but at least in court, that might be a good thing for morals of leaders and create some peace in this world. Naive? Still my opinion.

Why is the war on terror a just war? When it is the Iraqi's and Aghanistanis who are being terrorized everyday and being killed, maimed and displaced.
Where are the body counts for their dead? Who is representing these victims to halt this relentless acts of terror on them? Why does the Hague seem to be impotent on this matter? Conversely why has it taken so long for Al Bashir to issued an arrest warrant? Is the Hague waiting for the extinction of the Darfur's population before Al Bashir is brought to court. Why hasn't Bush and Blair been brought before the Hague to answer for their crimes against humanity? When they blatantly went against world opinion and decided to ignore the UN and invade Iraq and Afghanistan against the mass protests of their citizens. Isn't this just double standards? Is this a case that immunity from prosecution is only for certain leaders and not for others and are the International courts only set up to indite Leaders emerging nations and not for developed ones?

If the war on terror is a just one then maybe one should look at the wider picture and investigate it in depth to pinpoint the causes and effects of this policy? When the three major players Bush, Blair and Bin Ladden are still alive whilst many innocent men women and children across the world have perished for reasons which are not transparent and are covered in a series of conspiracy theories and there is no exit strategy insight. It is only Obama who has given the US one. The world is waiting to see whether the US can overcome its cancer of racism to go for one.Or will they elect John Mcain and in doing so elect another Bush by default to pursue the war war on terror.

As a result of the US present administrations foreign policy's War on Terror the international monetary system has been turned upside down from boom to bust to fund a war that no one can afford impacting on the world's population in so many ways i.e. the stripping of civil liberties, freedom of movement, economics, climate change etc. This is precisely what "the war on terror" has brought to the world. The "War Terror has been fueled by the thirst and greed of cheap oil to make bumper profits for the US and its allies. This has resulted in the present state of affairs we find ourselves in with increased economic hardship, expensive fuel, recession and climate of uncertainty for many nations. What we need is a war on poverty and unemployment which is going to take hard work and corporation and not another scramble for Africa to rob it of its resources to balance developed nations balance of payments. This time around polluters will have to pay in other words if the developed nations want access to Africa's resources they will have to pay market prices. If they aren't prepared to do so then there are other countries who are economically stronger who are willing to trade with Africa. so coming back to the war on terror the upside is the Africa is finally coming out of its lock and bind of subserviancy to emerge as an emerging power on the world stage as its people start recognising their self worth and what they have to offer the world creating a level playing field for themselves.

Sister your last words are so inspiring alas I fear that we have been the hind legs for so long I wonder whether we shan't be confused when the reverse takes place as you predicted.Africa taking center stage on the economic platform is something to live for , so i wish us all long life to witness that development.Add to this a change of governance methods whereby the populace won't suffer in penury and maltreatment from rogue rulers where ever they may sprout from.

The TRUTH is not by GOD given but by "POWER" imposed

Sister Omega, thanks
for bringing some light into this very dark discussion.
...Civilized Africans do agree that their leaders are good for nothing and should be hanged but they should not question the leadership of the industrialized nations....

It is very interesting to observe the double standard:
that a war monger/dictator is worthy if s/he takes the war to other people as long as s/he brings the booty home to his people. But the war monger/dictator that kills his own to remain in power is a worthless devil that should be brought to justice. The rationale clearly indicates the logic of interest; there is no objective truth, the truth is determined by POWER and INTEREST.

I do not condone any kind of despotism/dictatorship be it from hell or heaven. Does that make me a defender of El Bashir or Mugabe as some would advocate? No!!!! just applying the principle of consistency.

A couple of years ago China hosted one of the CLUB meetings not only did no one ask how China acquired membership but they were all dressed in Chinese traditional wear.

Janko, thanks for the brief, simple and honest statement. You see for there to be peace in this World standards must be applied across the board. Otherwise everyone would just do their own thing.

Its the same hypocrisy with Iran and its nuclear ambitions. India, Pakistan and Israel have not signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty but they all have Nuclear Weapons, bothe India and Pakistan have not only tested them in the last 5 years, but are currently pointing their nuclear weapons towards each other. India is recieving 'technical assistance' from the US on nuclear technology.

Iran which has actually signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty is being harassed that it shouldnt develop nuclear technology, albeit with its own money, scientists?

It has not occurred to the West that Israel's own nuclear waepons might be the actually problem. but then who supplies Israel with weapons.

its difficult to follow the logic and consistency here?

Inez, you will not see Blair in Court. i'm sorry
