OFFERINGS Under the hot burning sun No trees or shade to shelter Commandeered route liners stood Only the foolhardy dares default Poor sweaty children wait Hungry thirsty and tired Await the royal charity ,unwary Scrambling for crushed doggy biscuits Baited offerings to ignorants
Holding beliefs That eating the remains Of the emperor's feast Bodes well for them Bringing prosperity Ergo the scramble Of tired hungry thirsty people
Huge stately carriages Big wheelers come crushing bodies to pulp Riders unmindful of the carnage Poor sweaty and expendable folk Bled to oil the carriage wheels of state As the emperor baits the poor An Offering to the shrine The deity is hungry And most be fed In exchange for power

Kaaniba this poem is abt a certain leader. Who appears to be a despot. He makes people cheer him under appalling conditions. This leader is also supperstitious, thinking that in throwing away biscuits those that eat the 'charity' will help sustain him in power.what a folly!
This despot has fleet of cars of the biggest and probably the most expensive to maintain. This fleet care less if they crush a humanbeing to pulp.
Kaanibaa have i done justice to this poem? |

| Can I say more , the nut is cracked and so we just go on to other nuts harder to crack. Are there any ? Nuts most be cracked open and nut cases are to be discarded to the rubbish bins of history, they have no place among decent people.Add to the cracked cases, the specter of human sacrifice then the picture becomes very very grim. Devil worshipers, and power hungry politicos have been noted to get engaged in such practices and it showed its ugly head during the Liberian debacle;think about this.Do you need more spice ! |

| Madiss, you did very well. The spice is added by events that keep unfolding daily, I wrote that poem as a compliment to Santas piece on marabouts . The way of life or our lifstyle back home in Suegambia is covered here. With offerings to spirits as directed by spiritual guides, they ask us to take out these offerings in all manner of ways and so we get all kinds of weird stories of sacrificial offerings to enable the offerers obtain certain results. The most heinous of such acts is human sacrifice. Imagine the scenario of a certain big man wanting to get blood offerings and snares the poor by throwing food items on the road knowing fully well that they would scramble for this food and that a high speed convoy is closely following which inevitable would crash into the mad scrambling folk thus gets his blood offering. Just a thought. |

I don't know if you follow a lot of Nigerian movies. If you do, they depict a culture that dwell on devil worship and human sacrifice. It is a believe that devils feed on blood to give wealth, power, money, et cetera...but that is a failure in human thinking.
Back to the poem, With Madis' analysis, I add no more.
I truly see you are complementing many newspaper/posted stories.
Please keep it up!
I fear that too much indepth analysis/straight forward shots on these poems might constitute 'treason' charges in some countries, for sure in the Gambia.

| Dalton , i may be mistaken but I do believe there is a law on offending as it stands ;by person(s) in charge of dangerous objects or even non dangerous objects . This is the failure to ensure that the objects ;animate or inanimate do not cause harm to or endanger other persons whilst they are in effective control of the said objects. That,in law is what known as vicarious liability. The observation I made earlier on about casting biscuits on the road to people who eventually scramble for them and got hit by the convoys depicts such a scenario in my opinion. The responsibility or onus thus falls on the thrower of the said biscuits, he caused the scramble and the resultant crushing of the scramblers. This is my point of view, never mind the treasonable connotation that may be attached to my expose. |

Bro Kaniibaa,
You are not mistaken one bit and to me, you did just fine. A poem like this one cannot be misunderstood. It's a straight forward shot at some devil worshipper's ass who has thrown charity/gifts in feeding demons.
"Guilty as charged" though! You know that well. If i were to write about the subject matter under discourse, my tone won't have been less aggressive than yours. SO BE THE CHARGE! SO BE THAT CHARGE!!
I know it constitute treason in the eyes of a dictatorial regime at the expense of the true law supposed to represent dessenting views including criticism of a nation's leader.
The poem is a trailblazer one and it's a shot/sting of a scorpion's tail on some president's ass, probably Y... Jakut j..m.h. Who the crown fits, should wear/bear that heavy crown.
