Distant Drums As they travel Through the dense Sahel jungle The weary travelers In search of hope Cross streams ,rivers and dry desert At times hounded by hyenas or lions Jackals howling threats all the way At night frightening hoots from the owl Make them cringe Fearing the unseen Lurking in the thick foliage
The come of Day or night Is unknown to these travelers As in the Sahel jungle The canopy shuts out light Just a peep now and again Is all they got Thriving on hope They listened by force To all sounds Fearing some Yearning for others The best was the sound of Heraldic drums Those primitive tools The senders of message To distant abodes
Hearing the booming sounds Quickens their steps and heartbeat Signaling the beginning of the end Of their travail Across rivers, jungles and desert They marched with hope
So towards that sound They march on weary feet Eager for the welcome rest What awaits them is known to none All they know is That hope in the distance Beckons them And so in haste they march To meet with their destiny After a hard long trek Perhaps to rest at last Something to hope for Better than nothing at all
