I think this quote is particulaly pertient in Gambia at the moment.

'The person who has a tremendous reserve of patience and tolerance has a certain degree of tranquility and calmness in his or her life.
Such a person is not only happy and more grounded, but also seems to be physically healthier and to experience less illness. The person possesses a strong will, has a good appetite and can sleep with a clear conscience. '

H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama

tolarance is subjective. can you elaborate why you think it is patinent to the gambia? every society or every person have a level at which he/she would not want to tolarate any more. even the delai lama himself is not an exception to this. there were recent violence in tibet, he was accuse by china of being behind the agitation. one can be peaceful and tolerating yet still having limits to things one can naturally accomodate. what is aceptable to you is not to another and vice versa. statements by politicains does not represent a general opinon of the majority. i for one don't accept homosexuality. that doesn't mean i will hunt and kill them. there are many people who don't like me but that doesn't mean they will hunt and kill me. would the delai lama tolerate homosexuals? yes he may but he is a celibate.

Surah- Ar-Rum 30-22
"And among His signs is the creation of heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge." Qu'ran

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

The Dalai Lama spoke about Tibet and China. He spoke about his belief in the Ghandi tradition of non violent protest and political action. Of course he is not fully in control of what some people might do in his name.

China is occupying Tibet, so clearly any comment from China cant be taken as the unbiased truth!

He didnt speak about Homosexuality, but spoke about being able to separate an act from the person and the emotion.

So, guessing, I would like to think he would say that the ideal is to be celibate because the mind is clear and life is less complex. You have more time to study and reflect and are more likely to become enlightened.

But if one choses to have a partner the ideal would be a loving family with a wife to raise the next generation in love.

He may not approve of the homosexual act ( I am not sure of that?) but he would still be able to be kind and compassionate towards the homosexual PERSON. He could still LOVE the person.

I think it is a pertient quote for Gambia at the moment. Tolerance seems to be giving way to intolerance, led and guided by the President.

We dont necessarily have to approve of the way another person choses to live their life, but we can be tolerant and compassionate to the person.

Gambiabev, just like me I think you are expecting too much from Gambia at the 'moment'. I thought I knew my country but going by some postings on this forum [on similar topics elsewhere], it just showed me that, either things have changed drastically or I never new my country at-all. I always tought that from all the countries I have ever been too, Gambia was one of the most, if not the most tolerant. How wrong I was.
