the story i heard about the comments made by PA Sanjali was that ,when the kukoi coup ploters held him at gun point, pa Sanjali was force to make some negative comments about jawara. this is what he said "jawara gee helawato sitaleh, muso lehyee iwulu, musulehyeh kukoi wulu. nghee hee bampuleh kunun, nghe gindee ngha kukoi bampu bee" Alhagie Sanjali Bojang's comment during the kukoi coup.
meaning of what he said. (step down jawara your time is up. you are child of a woman and kukoi is also child of a woman. i back you before ,now i bring you down and back kukoi today).

Alhagie Ismaila said that the country has got a new leader and so on. but kondorong or any other historian can help us explain what this two men actually said.

Well it matters less what sanjali said. A man at gun point certainly will do anything to save his life. Sanjally literally founded PPP from a grass root organisation called LILAHI WARASULI. So i belive Jawara was not understanding in removing Pa Sanjally.

Every one ran for his life.

Santa, some things are better left unspoken.

Santafara, at the time of the 1981 coup Sanjali also said this about Jawara: "sama bantang kela, silang soronto kati banna", meaning the rain storm is over yet the drizzle hasn't stopped. This perhaps meaning Jawara has done his best yet he wants to cling to power...

kay, hee ninbara. nkoto kondorong yee tonyalefo. kuwo dool bejee wultefotate. the comments of pa sanjali were captured on tape. i believe it is part of our self realisation process, to know those interesting statements by men of honour and statue such as pa sanjali bojang may his soul rest in peace.

when one is held at gun point you do as your captors says and in his case say whatever he wants you to say.
By Allah who control my life and death ,i was held at gun point for close to three minutes by two gambian army officers during the 1996 election campaign.it was after 5pm ,we heard a news that ousanou darboe was coming from brikama to serrekunda after the end of his country wide campaign tour. out of curiousity, myself and few other boys from talinding decided to go to the main road to see the new politicain. i never show that man before, and his popularity was all over the place. we went to the talinding main road and stood by the market.
we were standing for some minutes and then we show army officers passing and waving for people to leave the road. it was yahya coming instead of ousanou. many udp supporters started to get agitated. why would yahya tresspass ousanou's travel arrangement? this created a big comfusion. some started throwing stones at yahya's convoys and then hell broke loss. yahya sat down his fourwheel drive instead of his usual standing and waving. some time later soldiers in combat gears started attacking the crowds. the beat a few people from fajie kunda area to talinding market. some stood their advances but many ran. unfortunately for me and few others, we didn't see the advancing soldiers early enough. before we could ran away, we were rounded, me and another guy. this men were menancingly looking and angry. one of them pointed an AK47 rifle on my head. he said "why are you sabortising our leader?" i said i am not sabortising any one. he repeated and shouted more "i said why are you sabortaising our leader?" . i said i didn't sabortise any one. another officer came behind him and drag the officer pointing his gun at me away.
i was shocked and scared. the crowd was geting fearless and i was thinking what will this guy do in case some body throw stones at him? he may hit me with his gun boot or worst.
so i sympatise with pa sanjali, i am just trying to get a perspective on events.
who said "Jawara geepoou"?
being held at gun point is not a nice expereince but it takes away some fear of a gun.

Santa

I had a very similar incident at the Yundum Barracks check point. We were travelling from Brikama to Serrekunda and at the check point we were searched and asked to go. For some reason, a soldier in the bushes did not see the search and thought we were trying to escape. He cocked his gun. I heard the noise and saw him kneeling point at us by the raod side. I was travelling with a friend. My legs turned jelly and said my last prayer never hoping to see my children.

Finally we were allowed to go. The real shock came around 2.00am when i woke up to the thought of death. I could not sleep again that night knowng how close i cheated death.

I now understood what Colin Powell said. That even Generals will show stress when live bullets are fired.

But my Fulani brethren should not laugh at this.

I think Hassan Musa said "jawara Jeepo". That was his political theme. Fuladu style

you are right. there was also a U.N vehicle their with long antenas. the story was yahya who held a meeting in sukuta area delibarately change his route to unsettle the udp folks. it works ,i believe it was the same night sedia sanyang was beaten severely at denton bridge. and a couple of other folks lost their lifes later run.

kondo, gambia is a very security mad country now a days. i remember travelling through jarra in december 2004 ,it was after a rumour that sana sabally and some disgruntle ex-soldiers wish to invade the gambia and baba jobe was also arrested. the van i was travelling in was searched from top to bottom and the annoying thing was.not by police but soldiers with guns. they enter with guns using the ak47 to move things arround with no respect what so ever. at kundan, it was even warkey. we were divided into three groups. i don't know what they were looking for. i didn't have my id card and a young soldier put me aside, interestingly he use to attend school with one of my younger brother . later my brother with me on the journey told him, ''badjie ,nyin munaa kotoke lete, abota nan babilon nee''. so suddenly the young officer let me go. id cards was an issue then, my last trip i didn't travel out of greater banjul.but i made a silliy mistake of taking pictures at the navey head quarters in banjul. i also unkownly asked the gate man ,what that place was. he just move his head and two navey officers arrived. i was taken in for questioning. suprisinly they didn't check my camera. all they did was ask me who i was and what i doing asking the gate guard. i told them, never being in that area before and that i wanted to know what base the place was. i was told to sit down. then some minutes later they continue chating .i told the man siting in the middle of a surrounding table ,i have to go, i don't have much time. he told me, undokee ,ntee butaminto? i told him, bolongba kono. he said noo, you look different, i mean ,i knew what he was geting at. i may post the pictures later .
