Gambian Police Officer Dies In Darfur By Saikou Ceesay
Inspector Baba Touray, who was part of the last Gambian police contingent in that went to Darfur on a Peace Keeping Mission in June 2007, met his untimely death on Wednesday, 9 April, after contracting a serious illness and admitted in hospital in Sudan. Inspector Touray, who finally succumbed to death, hailed from Pirang Village where his family lives. He was survived by two wives and three children. The Public Relations Officer, Inspector Sulayman Secka, revealed that the officer was elevated to the rank of Inspector just two weeks ago. He said that Inspector Touray had built good relationship with colleagues and friends within the security apparatus. PRO Secka said the incident happened just two months before the contingent was due to return from Darfur in Sudan; that they would announce funeral arrangements as soon as the corpse arrives in The Gambia.
