The dalasi in this case is said to have 'appreciated' or 'gone up' in value against the Pound Sterling. It is the latter (i.e the Pound Sterling) that has 'gone down' or 'depreciated' in value against the dalasi. Just a little correction. |

Also against the euro the dalasi is gaining strenght everyday now. it is very surprising to me, especially since people told me that there are so many new banknotes printed now. they told me that almost all 100 and 50 dalasis banknotes are new.
How can the dalasi be so powerfull, has it something to do with this transit trade newspapers are talking about? |

| swedish krones lost 40 dalasies over couple of nights and could be around 250 dalasi to 100 skr right now...instead of 390-420. I´m happy I´m not travelling these days...it´s getting too expensive. |

I did some changing 9 Mars at Forex, it was 1 SEK = 3,1 Dls
At my hotel 1=3, Forex rate today Sunday 1=3.
My hotel dinner -95 cost about 100 dls which by that time was almost the same in Sek. Now the price was 230-300 Dls which is less than 100 SEK!
Taxi Serekunda-Banjul is 5 Dls, 1 dls more than -95, -98. In Sek it is nothing. Barra-Janjangbureh was 230 Dls, quite reasonable. |

molly75 enjoy your holiday, it not just those who are travelling that the rates of exchange are effected, i have had to rethink shipping over some goods.
How are people managing who are paying rent/school fees. the rate of exchange has to be factored in.
but with the dls getting strong, are the wages in the country for civil servants being reflected in this. |

too expensive for someone travelling with constantly hungry teenage girls . I don´t think they would be happy if I told them we´ll take a taxi trip back and forth Serekunda- bakau everytime they get hungry...and my family hardly ever eat any lunch or dinner at restaurang here in Sweden so pls draw your conclutions out of that. And yet we are priviligde and able to save to a trip now and then but I feel for gambian people these days.

 Hi Inez, I only commented your statement "I´m happy I´m not travelling these days...it´s getting too expensive" and the value of dalasis compared to SEK. My conlusion still is (to my surprise) that for me, as a Swedish tourist, it was not more expensive than 10 years ago. A package tour for one person is always more expensive than for two shearing a room, for someone (probably a singel mother?) paying for two or three or more...it´s expensive!
By the way, a bag of rice in Abuko Village costs 650 Dls, a big, big and thick matress costs 1700 Dls in Talinding. |

Hello - just got back late last night. Good trip - but most of the tourists were complaining of high prices. I got 38 at the beginning of my stay (to the £) but 37,50 by the end - but most tourists were getting 36 - many people i met said they would not go back because of the expense - which I thought was really sad.
I did struggle to help all my friends as prices remain exactly the same as last ear when I got 53 to the £.
Someone, somewhere is making a great deal of money because benefits are not being passed on to the average person ..... |
