I would like to wish all of you a Happy Independence Anniversary. Today 18th February marks the 43rd independence (whatever that means) anniversary of The Gambia from Britain.

A clear conscience fears no accusation - proverb from Sierra Leone

This day should indeed be a joyful day for all Gambians and friends of the Gambia. Yet for some reason I found myself dreading this day as it approached. The source of my unease perhaps has to do with the fact that Jammeh will have another occasion to speak publicly. I guess you all know what that means right? Jammeh is perhaps the worst public speaker I have ever known; and the worst part is that you never know what this man would say. Let us all brace ourselves for another embarrassment...

Bravo Kay

You have captured the picture in clear form. It is quite worrying when a person does not respect limitations. That is the sad case of Gambia's man mountain.

Thanks Karamba for that observation.
I can now breath with a sigh of relief, now that the Chairman's speech is over with. I must say it is a better speech than I expected this time. But I still have some bones to pick with the speech. Throughout his speech the Chairman talked about the need for all to join together in a "shared ideology" for the development of the Gambia. I think the Chairman needs to understand that dissent is also an important part of the development approach. Political and economic thought should be diversified, not homogenized as Jammeh seeks to achieve.
The Chairman also talked about the Gambia as a "...social super power"? I can envision a military or economic super power, but not quite a "social super power", how does that look like?
You know I just like to pick on the Chairman, but look at this one from his speech, "...social sciences particularly education, health and agriculture", atleast agriculture is not throughly a social science, hello!
Did he say that "a nation of lazy people cannot develop"...:)? Oh man! What is "Asamadeh" ? I also see Barak Obama's presence in the Daily Observer's reference to Jammeh's Aids patients as "...hope to believe". But you know perhaps Jammeh is not even aware of this, but his 'affair' with the AIDS patients could hugely help in removing the social stigma of the disease as evident in their participation in the Independence celebration march pass...

Kay,

Most worrying about this man is his deluded posture as though Gambia is a pocket size toy he is free to fiddle with. In all fairness, Gambia does not need this type of person (take note- not just this partcular person but anything like him.) He is total element of ruin. The amount of corruption added to personal selfishness that the man is soaked in will never advance Gambia. The man will be fair enough to get out of the mess because surely, he is unable and unwilling to get the country out of the mess. That is an issue for all to consider. At end of day, when Gambia is ruined as we now face, all the resources will be flushed along including the rich bank of human resources everyone tends to boast about. If anyone thinks you are not affected, think again.
