Lurker,
are you honestly in for that 'mah-baloo/untouchable' syndrome? If really sure, where are they today? One is in ireland and the other tamed in his Gambian hut? What-sup?

In Gambian bantabas when an airplane passes by in the distant skies, the utterance from the chatters 'fattah koyoh foh nyaa namoo joh dorong.'
Tell the Mandinka speakers to translate it for you, or your Madam.
'skin' mentality poisoned in the brains of minoroties-making some inferior and some superior; complexity .
have a good one.

madam's mandinka a bit sketchy - sometbing about white men, but not the rest! i am thinking this may have been a reference to the mixed race heritage of these brothers but i guess you might need to enlighten me! |

Tuesday's Lurk,
I have my own hitches in Mandinka, but here are the facts. I thought you hitch on Mandinka too. Sorry for suspending you long...
Yes, you get the idea though.
"fata koyo foh nyaa naamoo joh"
Literally it is an attribution to the brain of the white man, believed to have invented the airplane.
Direct translation means, "To the whiteman, we must pay them taxes."
Perhaps in your travel to the Gambia, you've seen some of the bumsters. You are familiar with their mentality. The mixed blood is the "maa-baloo" chip. 'Maa-baloo', traditionally has to do with feared people, untouchable people; like kings with powers; like people with charms; et cetera.

i think the aura, is to do with attitude, if they are "considered" of kings then people will be aware of them and change their behaviou accordingly. It is the same in europe once people know that you belong to a certin family or have a connection with Noble lines watch peoples reactions. as for the skin mentality this could be linked to the "house negro" mentality in the USA, look miss rice and mr powell |

Let us have in mind that the mysticism surrounding the Albino (ex. Salif Keita the popular Malian singer) which the term "maa-baloo" (tabu) could be refering to is different from that of the Singhatehs mixed race origin.
The alleged accusations against the brothers have to do with the roll they played in the present politics of the Gambia and not their mix race origin.

ok , so we have local "superstitions" and historical patterns regarding their colour, esteem, origin, etc.thanks for that angle. now, what do they stand accused of by their detractors with respect to the present politics. for example, i saw a newspaper article accusing one of murder , allegedly! are they gone and out of favour? are they still players from afar? are they in the good or bad books of the incumbent pres? |

Local "superstitions" do not apply in their case hence they are no Albinos. As you very well know, the mystification of Albinos is all over the world, in Europe, USA and so fort.
Very good questions, which I think our learned and well informed herein, can help us grasp.

funny how a couple of guys can get so much attention in a small country for so long and now no-one can/will tell me much about these notorious men! it is like they do not exist or never have! i smell fear. maybe i am a toubab in uncharted territory here. maybe this maa-baloo thing is still too strong regarding these naughty boys. maybe they still have tentacles that reach out amongst the masses and people dare not speak????? was only curious to hear the tales. |

The funny thing for me is no one came to their aid when both is in trouble with the very party/government they helped build. That no one came to their aid or lifted an eyebrow says a lot about their isolated situation and there is nothing mystical about that, for you reap what you sow.
The only thing people may fear is there military background but not some mystical thing, which is a misconception. There maybe rumours about what they did to put the present government in power but the proof is yet to come.
There are no tales to tell and in fact, I think this post is more mystical of the brothers than they are in reality.

Well paternally, they come from a respected and well-known family in the Wuli. If they had nurtured that part, there would have been a lot of support from there and not as quiet about them as it is now. |
