This piece in the D.O. is very clear and somewhat worrying but some very sensible thoughts about police deployment however police training should be impoved,some years ago advisers from the UK were in the Gambia dealing trying to do this but funding did not continue and training ceased.

Greetings Everyone
I just returned from Gambia today. Yes violent crime and theft is up, car hijacking targeting of female drivers and theft on the ferry terminals at Banjul and Barra are all on the increase. I agree that police should be more visibly deployed especially in crowded areas where mugging is on the increase i.e Westfield junction.
Organized thieves pray on commuters and travelers assisting them with baggage and then stealing it from them.

I agree that the Police need to be more proactive in crime prevention after all prevention is better than cure.

Well done sister,I was just thinking that it was about time you returned,Welcome back, I hope you enjoyed yourself,you were missed here ther have been postings on a lot of subjects that you would have wanted to give your input,have alook when you can and see what I mean.

Sister O, welcome back. You are right, but it is also true that usually the increase of criminality is a consequence of increased poverty. As far as I can see the gap between rich and poor is widening in Gambia.
