PPP in Limbo
As Party Bigwigs Quit NADD
Monday 20th March 20

By Alhajie Mbye

In what could be described as yet another major blow to the opposition alliance - NADD, some bigwigs in the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) have quit NADD, joining the UDP/NRP alliance, highly placed sources told The Point.

According to our sources the said PPP stalwarts withdrew from NADD with effect from Friday 17th March 2006.

Musa Drammeh, an executive member of PPP was reported to have tendered a letter of resignation to Halifa Sallah, NADD’s coordinator on Friday 17 March. In the letter it is stated that PPP withdrew from NADD with regret; however they are looking forward to an eventual unification with all Opposition parties because they share a common objective of removing the APRC through the ballot box. It is also reliably learnt that the PPP Executive were divided in that move.

The PPP executive was said to have held a meeting on March 3rd 2006 during which seven executive members of PPP decided to withdraw from NADD.

The following people were reported to have quit NADD : Yaya Ceesay, Musa Drammeh, Omar Sey, Kutty Sanyang, Dembo Jatta, Sulayman Touray and Lamin Jombo Bojang; whilst Omar Jallow, Landing Jallow Sonko, Ganji Touray, Momodou Lamin Touray, Sambou Dibba Babucarr Krubally, Ousman Jarju, and Bai Jagne are still in NADD.

Meanwhile when contacted yesterday to shed light on the story, the PPP interim leader Omar Jallow confirmed the withdrawal of the said seven PPP top brass from NADD but he was quick to brush aside speculations and rumours making the rounds in town that PPP has withdrawn from NADD.

According to OJ, during their March 3 meeting, a majority of the party executive did not agree for PPP to withdraw from NADD.

He said: “I am not aware of PPP withdrawing from NADD. These are just rumours. The PPP has structures and if such a major decision is to take place it has to be discussed by the party secretariat and it has to be approved by the central committee. Without the approval of the central committee such a decision by the secretariat cannot be binding and is therefore null and void”.

However, both Dr Nyambie Touray, the Cordinator of PPP and Musa Drammeh, an executive member of PPP confirmed to The Point the withdrawal of PPP.

Kondorong,

the gambia is a theatre. our politicians are the actors and actresses. we form the audience watching them as they begin to show their greed and infidelity. our country's political future is very worrying and disturbing for that matter.
i am not surprised all those PPP people jumping from one party to another. they are all infected with the PPP-NCP mentality. they still live in the past. those people have a very sick mentality of greed, corruption, tribalism, and individualism. how on earth can they decide my future.
don't be surprised if they end up with the AFPRC tomorrow. those people go around sniffing people's kitchens and where ever they smell good "chuu chaa", there they rest their heads. they are nothing but opportunists.
no matter how much i dislike junkung, i still prefer him to Darboe and Bah. atleast, junkung has shown us his true colors, but we don't know what color and smell Darboe and Bah will expose. their acts towards the next election could tell us everything about who they are.
the gambia is in a real mess. lots of gambians have given up already. i never know that people could hate themselves to such an extent.

Born African i am laughing my head out. It has been a long time since i heard of "Chuu Chaa" or as others will say " Ko Leppi Ko". Dont give up. You still need a lot of convincing and may be Junkung is better at it than those on the ground right now. Democracy has its own limitations.

These so-called PPP bigwigs who withdrew from NADD were inactive members (I know this for a fact). Now they want to make noise after OJ bore the burden of the party and has been jailed on their behalf. As a young Gambian, I have learned a lot from these political episodes. Gambians (not all of course) will ask you to lead then trip you (Jeetal la bepereh facatal la)! Nadd cannot be discouraged even though it is a bumpy road ahead.
