Greetings Everyone,
It's the first time I've actually posted from Gambia. The weather is beautiful. The exchange rate is 36D to 1 pound and 19D to US. African magic Tv last night was giving a tribute to Lucky Dube after his untimely death on friday may his soul rest in perfect peace. I'm just chilling out socking up the atmosphere and warming up my marrow.
Taxi drivers are crying about better roads that need to be built. Yet they recognise that APRC have done more than the previous administration to rectify the problem. Gambians under Jammeh have adopted the work ethic knowing that one can't get something for nothing and are prepared to put in the hard work to obtain what they desire. Construction is booming with new housing, businesses and extentions being erected.
It's refreshing so many secondary schoolchildren going to school. With local elections coming up civic education is being taught over city limit radio. Allthe papers are sold openly on the street. The economy seems ok it is just for the importers adjust their prizes now that foreign exchange rates have fallen. This is a better situation for the dalasi at last it is regaining its strength.
Anyway I'm off take it easy all!
Peace Sister Omega

sister O, enjoy your holiday, how are the tourist numbers stacking up, the exchange rate is not good but i am sure it wll level out. As for the roads, that has been a big worry for many years, this form of transportation is necessary for progress, people need to travel, as jobs are created people neeed to get to work. UK looks very grey, keep thinking of sunny Gambia |

We look forward to your in depth postings when you return and have more time, and probably a faster internet connection,as at cafes you are charged by time andwith a slow speed that mounts up the cost. |

SISTER ON ,YOU ARE LATE IN THE DAY .many people here are posting from the gambia, but i guess they have a different interest with you .hahaha.my road from sukuta to serrekunda is still bad ,don't you see that ? also the prises of good are high but may be the sister have some tourist thing going ?just guessing .business people always want to protect their interest , even if that means robing salt on other wound. i hope omega's gambia love is genuine but to sound so optimist is out of this world. even central bank is not this opptimistic. they need a new PR . |

Santanfara, I will keep watchful eye for u in Serrekunda market and enroute to Sukuta! Dalasi 37.50 Will be up country later this week, in the meantime I see the concrete jungle on Kairaba Ave still on the rampage but still no sign of improving the desperation and empty stomachs!
Very, very sad news on Lucky Dube..Rest in Perfect Peace. sab.

Santanfara, I think it is fitting to describe sister Omega's optimitism as 'Sister Omega's delusion'.
Thanks, mate. |
