The future of any country is in its children So it is very heartening to see so many children now going to school. But what of the future in 5 or 10 years time when these children leave school. Will there be any work for them. Gambia is a low cost employment country as is India and Parkistan whos govenments exployted that fact and attracted many international companies to set up bussinesses in there countries to the benift of all concerned. But what of Gambia does the govement have any long term plans or strategies in place to attract forien companies to set up here. As i dont see the tourist trade or farming being able to accomordate the majority of school leavers

| well, pakistan and india gets a lots of service industry, mainly IT. They have excellent human resources for that. Gambia does not. For service industry, there needs to be IT infrastructure. Gambia does not have. So the government needs serious thinking about investment for the future if they want piece from outsourcing. |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

| Indeed Jambo. But to pay for these Jobs have to be created to pay the taxes that would pay for this and more employment. So the question still remains does the govenment have any long term plans to attract foriegn companies to set up in Gambia in what ever field that may be. Because I cant see Gambia creating the jobs that are needed to gainfuly employ future school leavers |

Your point is well made Snuggles. For the last two years I have been advising students I sponsor to go to GTTI to do Timber Construction/electrical Vocational courses because there IS employment in the construction business. Or to consider Hotel School because there is employment in the tourist industry. But, I think, that there are no far too many students studying IT as a main course (of course they need to be computer literate). There are not the jobs for them. And I don't see any government help emerging (yet?!) |

lily you re right i always try and steer them in the direction of practical training, but they all want comoputers, a clean job. they get trained and get a low paid job, somewhere they have to commute to. where a dressmaker, or electrician can work anywhere. |
