a good article about Timbuktu from the Tribune. mentions the old Sankore Univeristy, had 25,000 students!!!!! teaching ''all subjects under the sun'' a glimpse of the past. maybe African Renaissance is possible ....

I watched a mini series in the 1990s on this topic in the UK. The family that was featured in that series was the Hydara family.

Sankore University was there well before the like of Cambidge, Harvarad etc.

yeah i think they referred to it in the article as well, it was by prof. gates at harvard, it was called Wonders of the African World touched on everything including the stones in Zimbabwe etc a good programme should be compulsory viewing at schools.

njucks, since you have travel some african countries, you should tell us your experience. i did travel west africa as a child with my step-dad but i can't remember much. my wish is to travel as many african countries as possible starting at Timbuktu. Foday musa suso did a program on Timbuktu. www.fmsuso.com. he made a vedio recording accompany with a book.
