The Point has reported the mushrooming of Newspapers in The Gambia. But most of them are into specailised areas such as business and society. Could this be treated as a yardstick in measuring press freedom? Lets hear ur opinion

i have never had a problem with the number of newspaper available in Gambia, just that they were never available in the rural areas. I never saw one in jufreh, nuimi, farafenni, maybe i am wrong, but a bit more distribution would really help to spread the news. Is that called propaganda.

I think this is a sign of progress

jAMBO, When i graduated from high school i was desperately looking for job and couldn't find one for awhile. Oneday i was drinking "attaya" with friends and in fact my close friend was brewing the tea and he had a piece of paper in his hands. The paper was used to avoid burns and i dont know if you are familiar with the brewing but anyway the small kettle gets really hot.
After drinking first, second, and third i saw the paper on the floor and decided to unfold it and take a look at it. To my surprise, it was a newspaer and on it was a job advertisement and i met all the job requirements. I applied for the job and was later interviewed and appointed for the position.
Information is very important cause if i can find the best job for me at this point in time my life would be better off. making newspapers available to the rural areas will not only improve the lives of the rural people but will also be beneficial to all.Even if majority of them can't read they will buy it and take it to the younger ones to read for them. i have seen this right after the July22 takeover.Jambo who are right they deserve information too. bye

It looks as if we have one less now as the Daily Observer has been absent on the WWW for some time now.
