DISCLAIMER
"The temporal acting coordinator and the supporting volunteers are not indebted to anyone should this affair succeed or fail.
They are only in effort to get people together, and ultimately it is the people that can unite themselves. We welcome
constructive criticism
and ideas in a way to make it successful, therefore everyone is advised to stay away from
undermining efforts of unity openly or secretly."

"We welcome constructive critism!" was enough but its conditional and therefore may be counter-productive, in my opinion. Its a noble goal to UNITE GAMBIA OR GAMBIANS and initiatives differ. The disclaimer should be revisited and the nature of this initiative properly define as what type of VENTURE, ENTITY, PROJECT OR ORGANIASTION it could be properly classified.

That made to endorse Gainakos position thatn there are conflicts of interests, the questions of genuie mandate and authority. Of course there are various types of entities or organations. There are those that are private or public (government, non-governmental organisations (ngo), projects for national, political, religious, benevolent, charitable and community development etc. Some organisations are poltical, nn-political, social, profitable, non-profitable, commercial (business!), etc. There should be a proper classification of this organisation for COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL REQUIREMENTS; OWNERSHIP & CONTROLLING POWER, ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY AND REPORTING!

As a private venture it could be under certain proprietorship, partnership and company. What entity is UNITED GAMBIA ASSOCIATION
(UGAMA)
Aims & Objectives below appear to have one of the GREATEST CHALLENGES TO UNITE GAMBIANS i.e "(II) To support social and political freedom thus ensure due process of law for the Gambia and her friends.". Its apparent that POLITICS AND JUSTICE are there. Our DIRTY POLITICS (divide and rule policies) and BAD GOVERNANCE are CONSTRAINTS FOR A UNITED GAMBIA. However that challenged would be FACED BY ALL GAMBIANS if we are for A UNITED GAMBIA.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

(I) To unite Gambians and their friends at home and in the Diaspora.

(II) To support social and political freedom thus ensure due process of law for the Gambia and her friends.

(III) To initiate and execute projects of national interest.

(IV) To pave the way forward for the Gambia and her friends.

For The Gambia, our homeland,
we strive and work and pray,
That all may live in unity, freedom and peace each day.
Let justice guide our actions towards the common good,
And join our diverse peoples to prove man's brotherhood.
We pledge our firm allegiance, our promise we renew;
Keep us, great God of nations,

To The Gambia ever true!

kOBO,

Nothing should stop you or any one from joining that room to discuss the way forward on that day. Your critique is observed well, and as a matter of fact, you can be a great asset on that day by laying some constitutional stipulations, as rules governing "unity."-No barrier of any sort should be observed.

Regarding the disclaimer, it was only fair to protect those actively participating. Such a statement wasn't just of out of the blue. It was rightly calculated, after clear observation. Here you are participating fully in it, will it be fair for any one to blame you for your positive efforts if it succeeds or fails?

Otherwise, i challenge you further to critique the agenda, and expand the scope. As well feel free to piece out a working document for these would-be-participants, whether you will attend it or not (ugambia@gmail.com).

but will rejoin in this topic to questions, and the ideas shared at consultation level.

thanks,

dalton.

Regarding its legality, such shall be established by any selected committee. That committee will draw a constitution. That will be the reference for actions. Registration comes after a working document called 'constitution'.

Regarding "accountability, transparency, probity etceta..."

I personally expects that a committee ready to do its work, will always fill in all portfolios--

and if posible even have an "oversight" body , that will over see registered progresses or failures, and to fully engage and advice to that committee. such an oversight body could be a composition of elders, activists, or people politically conscious.

brother dalton , i think one way a well coordinated meeting can be organise in england is for all the different associations to be contacted ,i know of two ,one in birmingham and another in london. i believe there is another association in reading.this leaders can be contacted to organise a single unifying conference . i know the president of the birmingham association ,although i disaggree with him a while ago when jaliba came here last year. i refuse to pay my contribution for jaliba's expenses but that is gone ,now we can move on .we need a unifying agenda and dialogue. we can't accept the same things but we can respect each other and consolidate our political progress .

Uncle Santa,

I am sorry for the delayed reply. I am running-a-rack.

If any cannot attend the US conference, they should submit written proposals.

Those of you in Uk and the surrounding should work on a conference there. It will be a sister conference.

Very sincerely yours,
dalton.

Opinion
GOOD LUCK TO OUR COALITION
By D.J.Dalton
MN, USA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our dear coalition, I write to salute you all in the spirit of peace. Congratulations !! Your brothers and sisters at home and abroad are watching you from far and near. NADD will not be alone in the struggle to another re-birth of democracy in our dear motherland. I have realized, the road map to NADD wasn't an easy task but thanks to Almighty God , that at long last an agreement is being reached. History will have you in records, in as much as humanity exist on earth.

Our dear coalition,Now that NADD is formed, i feel duty bound to offer my advice to all under this umbrella. It's not the coalition pillars alone but all who believe in democracy and respect for human rights. People in the whole world need to live in peace. Peace can only exist where there is freedom and justice. Bringing freedom and justice to play is called true democracy. This would mean our political, media and human rights activists will all air their voices loud and clear without any fear.

Our dear coalition, It must be clearly noted that we are not only hungry for a Gov't change but a system change is what we call for. So let our brothers in the coalition all be centered in this sentiment. Let there be no selfishness or personal interest gain exercised at all. There should be much carefulness in dealing with our young society. People of all tribes should be respected in their political opinions. Let the initiators strictly abide by whatever rules they have to come out with, in the interest of all Gambians. Let the coalition exercise much patience, tolerance and diversity in their dealings with the masses. It's never impossible to say the truth. Don't promise what you cannot give, but rather sensitise the people of their rights.

Our dear coalition, your brothers and sisters are watching you and we are monitoring your words and your actions. You are our educated ones, our activists and our heads onto whom we rely on for rescue when we are sinking in the deep oceans. So please, don't betray us ! Don't Forget the past day, the ongoing day and the future day, for many came in with pure intentions only to end up being bad ones. Let the politics be tactical, for only then you can win the hearts of the masses. Our Gambia is too small, taking to violence will only help to divide us more. So be wise and spend all the available time in uniting and sensitising the people.

Our dear coalition, Put in place a well defined agenda, this would include telling the people what you will do for them. Tell our poor farmers how you will improve their lives. Give them assurance that their farm-lands and their animals are priority. Let the majority of the populace (our dear youths) know the job projects and sports facilities ahead, come victory in 2006. Our supporters and non-supporters need assurance of peace and tolerance. Our journalists will want to see their press freedom respected. Our students must know what you are keeping for them, fair opportunities to further their education. Our civil society need to know that they will not be subjected to random hire and fire. Let our dear military be assured that they will never be used to represent evil, instead to protect law and order.

The people need to know what you will do with the taxes they are paying-the poor roads, our telephone system, electricity, markets, hospitals and water . Strongly affirm to all that the paid taxes will neither be abused nor corrupted. Tell the people how the economy can be stabled, Food and other basic commodities must be well elaborated on. The different tribes like to see no isolation, superiority and tribalism of any sort.

The different religion leaders and their followers need to see tolerance and maintenance of the long peace that Muslims and christians enjoyed in our dear Gambia. The private sector too need to see what Gov't can do for them. Preach for peace, love and tolerance -never hatred and intolerance. Define the rules clearly and help the people know how the Gambian Gov't will interact with other countries of this one world. Counter the opponent genuinely with his evils, wrongs, mistakes and short-sightedness.

Our dear coalition, to bring all the above to fruitful existence, strong commitments and endeavors are needed. Indeed, the task of total democracy has just began. We won't view you as a party monopolised or influenced by any of the member parties but rather a peaceful NADD party coming to rescue our dear Gambia. There will be of course no easy way to getting all these accomplished but with strong faith in Almighty God and total commitment from all members, the coalition will be successful.

Our dear coalition, as i end this letter, i pray for all Gambians at home and abroad. I ask all to respect law and order. I ask all to learn wisdom and apply it at all times. I call on our many brothers and sisters at home and abroad to support the coalition both morally and finally, for when victory comes, everyone will have a share of the cake. This struggle reminds me saying of the wise, S.M.O Aka who said "no matter how dark the night is, day must come". Since i cannot pin the credit on certain individuals but would rather say all the coalition pillars, i once more congratulate and thank you for a job well done. LONG LIVE THE GAMBIA AND LONG LIVE OUR COALITION..ameen.

Bro. LJD,

I was tickled by your comments once again. I hold you not of the weak, but rather the breeze you are blowing now is going on records. I sincerely advice you to read well in-between the lines, and fully comprehend the matter at hand.

As far as I am concern, all I see is "unity". That's what I will pursue. For so long it has been a "talk-talk", and brother, lets move onto the "do-do" now. This stubborn Yero is too little to make things happen or not to happen. It is the people in entirety.

Allow me; convey to you, such matters of national interest shall not be taken personal by me, or any of those generating ideas. Your critical stand point is very well appreciated, and I must admit to you for the first time, your last piece gave me more courage, more hope, more energy, more ambition, in fact, I am ready to scatter your fears into pieces. I am already in the pool of the unity now, if I should slow down, I would vindicate your fears. We are moving. The people are moving forward. The 'treaty' will be signed, in Allah's name.

Part 5 will be out tomorrow-God willing. As you openly criticize, I genuinely call on you and the many 'men' and 'women' of our kingdom to constructively do so without being stocked on prior differences with others. Keep it flowing with a spirit to rectify the wrongs, straighten the bent edges, and offer solutions for the way forward.

You don't expect to see a lot of my replies to this debate, but that each and everyone's constructive point is important.

Here I will share with you the virtue of the Serene prayer. I am hoping not to convince you to endorse this very important affair, but thinking you can deeply reflect and at least recognize it and respect each and everyone’s contribution towards the struggle of our time. Should you have suggestions, or any ideas as to how we can achieve success, I once again challenge all and sundry to come out and help make it successful.

Respectfully submitted,
Yero Jallow

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Hi Lamin,
My name is Demba Baldeh one of the associates of Gainako online newspaper. I am responding to this email not behalf of Gainako but as a private Gambian citizen fully aware of the political and social situation in our country. The only reason I copy this mail to you is because I am not able directly to the post for reasons beyong my control. If you can forward this email to the post I will appreciate it.

I just wanted to engage you in your question regarding the merits of a Gambian Diaspora conference this far away from 2011. I want to appeal to your conscience and to remind you that in fact we as gambians should not have to wait for another election cycle to engage among ourselves and try to address our own problems back home. As far as I am concern this should not be about politics, but about our involvement in social and economic projects in the Gambia.

Am sure you will agree with me that Gambia had its worst brain drain to a level where almost all the youths the most precious resource of a nation has abandoned our nation. It is therefore crucial that we put our brains and resources together to actively participate in the national endeavors back home.

We truly don't have to know who is who to organize such a conference. All we need to know is that we are all Gambians and want the best for our country. It is politics that divides us, but Gambia and the plight of its people should unite us now and forever. No one absolutely will solve our problems for us. We therefore have a moral obligation to get together and try to address our issues.

If we as Gambians still belief that we should have some kind of class or social recognition to initiate such national reconciliation agenda, then am deeply sorry that we are in for a long backward battle that will take us no where.

Once again, I hope you will understand my points of arguement that this is not about politics or which political party does what. This is about how can we as Gambians in the Diaspora actively engage each other so we can collectively us our intellectual minds to effect change in the Gambia. I do also hope that you were aware of the bitter division that existed amongst Gambians in the Diaspora during the last election. We have two choices be a part of the people who wants to bring about the needed change or do our own individual subsidies to our families which does not take us anywhere. What say you my brother Darboe?
Thanks
Baldeh

Mawdo Demba,

Here, i forwarded it from the gpost for the benefit of bantaba readers. And you just made my day. Here you go with the quote of the day.

"A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability."

Don't wait to be called. If you should see a bush fire approaching a village with thatch houses, you shouldn't fold your hands, because it is evident that the fernando will consume all; food, humans, et cetera. Therefore, be part of it. Small movements can grow upto large movements. That is the work of Allah swt. We should all take courage from the growth of Islam, which started with few followers to now numerous. The mission must be true, as well it must be propagated. May God give us all its goodness. The A.P.R.C deserve invitation for a UNITED GAMBIA. They should participate at inception to give it atrue NATIONAL COLOUR and gather sound resolutions, petitions and recommendations as the way FORWARD THE GAMBIA OUR HOMELAND for TRUTH, RECONCILIATION AND NATIONAL UNITY. Can Gainako explain why they are not listed under this link http://www.gainako.com/default.htm

United Gambia should start under a NATIONAL FORUM and think thank for civil liberties, seek mandate as an assembly to address any issue that confronts Gambian citizens (e.g. Politics, Education, Health, sports, social and welfare) all aspects of development, activities and welfare of the state, that should DOMICILE IN GAMBIA and not in any foreign land. They deserve the support of government of the day to be effective. A whole range of constraints hinders PROGRESS, PEACE, PROSPERITY AND STABILITY.

If its another kind of coalition for political activities, we are seeking further information on its direction and objectives. Trash out the conflicts of interests and level the field FOR ALL GAMBIANS IRRESPECTIVE OF POLITICAL AFFILLIATIUONS TO PARTICIPATE please.

Thanks and good luck!

Dalton, I think if you want this initiative to be taken seriously you and the likes of Dr Saine, who had done all that you could to smear credible opposition figures and parties in the run up to the last presidential election, should not even dream of coming close to the front desk much more signing off literatures as bona fide officials

Just my advice, and please don't invite me as I am, so far , neither impressed nor interested.

Thanks

I do not oppose unity but I oppose dumb union.
