Minority Spokesman on Foreign Affairs, Hon. John Mahama says it is unfortunate Ghana cannot stop Gambian President Yahya Jammeh from attending the AU Summit in Accra, however, he should be told he is not a welcome guest.
John Mahama’s anger, which epitomizes that of many, stems from the Gambian government’s unwillingness to probe the alleged massacre of 44 Ghanaian immigrants in the Gambia by security operatives in 2005.
The victims were said to be travelling through The Gambia alongside six other African nationals en route to Europe when they were arrested at the Senegalese border village of Amadalaye for illegally entering the country, framed up in a fake coup and butchered to death. Two of them who managed to escape were later picked up.
Discussions between Ghana’s Foreign Ministry and its Gambian counterparts have since made very little progress, owing to what the Foreign Ministry says is the Gambian government’s uncooperative attitude.
Enough of diplomacy
Hon. John Mahama - Jammeh must answer for the killings.
Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Akwasi Osei Adjei told Joy News President Kufuor will bring the matter up once again when he meets the Gambian President at the sidelines of the AU Summit.
But John Mahama believes the ‘soft diplomacy’ must pave way for real action to get results and that the AU meeting must be the last opportunity for Gambia to explain to Ghanaians why 44 of their compatriots were massacred in that country.

Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative is set to hold a vigil in Accra to pressurize President Jammeh to investigate the killings. "

thanks for sharing.
In my view Ghana is totally right, to the extent, they should shame Jammeh by openly demonstrating with banners to the streets of Accra.
I cannot imagine if such a number of Gambians were found lying in Ghana, and yet they will give us bull & cock story? That will be too much for temperimental fellows.
But generally speaking, a man is supposed to be in love with his family first, in this case, the poor administrator and Gambians. it is evident with all the criminal activities observed, it is far from the truth, so how do we expect for such a 'criminal ruler' to care about others.
Doesn't charity begins at home, they say?
Ghana might as well think of dragging the man and his administration in a court of law. This will yield a positive justice output.
Finally, may the killers be exposed one day. The fact that the administration ignored it or can 'originate' the Deyda-kind of dossier means they might as well have some interest in huddling information.

Ofcourse, Jammeh dosen't deserve to be welcomed in Ghana. His ultimate exposure as a killer dictator is unfolding not only within The Gambia but to the wider world. This protest in Ghana could serve as the beginning of the roadblocks ahead of him at local and international levels in favour of Gambian masses.
The victim's families deserved to know why their loved ones met their untimely and brutal end in the hands of their fellow Africans in The Gambia. The Ghanian Government owe it to her citizens to pursue this matter inside out, right to the end by all means necessary. These people protesting against Jammeh's trip are making a vital statement that could mark a turning point exposing his brutal and selfish nature. Just like many of his own citizens, these innocent victims were massacred because of his sense of insecurity. |

Ghana is the most homely place to visit. The people are very humble and generally industrious. They repesent the highest qualities of African generosity. In Gambia, there is a whole settlement of Ghanaians "Ghana Town" for long time now. This brutal Mr Jammeh can divide Cassamance rebels and Gambians but not us and our good Ghana men and women. People of Ghana are clear enough to know that it is a sole brutal killer who is extending his killer weapons to rid the continent of innocent lives. Where are the Jammeh APRC fanatical supporters? Will you parade the streets of Accra with your green flags to defend a clown scarecrow of a president. Stop the joke and be real!!! Your president Jammeh, is a killer. |

| karamba and kondo , you guys said it all . the man is always a desaster since assuming high office. would our journalist of the calibre of dalton gainako ,pa freedom ,sankareh echo ,sarjo allgambian be standing in defence of our national leader in the hands of the ghanian press .let us also look at the isue from the side of our image as a nation. our journalist should tell him 'we will defend you here now but after the summit we will take you to the cleaners '. i believe that yahya is our wayah so it should be gambians who should lay the kuday .what say you men of the press and interested comrades .the gambia is our business . |

On the Saturday these murdered Ghanians were found the President officially opened 'Brusubi turntable plus part of Taf estate and then went onto Sukuta.
I was travelling that afternoon ahead of the convey and stopped at Sukuta (in bush van) where the military was in such presence I wondered if anyone was left at State House!
Next day I heard eight bodies had been found, by evening time I overheard a female prison officer speaking of forty four.
Initially people told me not to listen to rumours, so I questioned it (with eight bodies) on Bantaba as they had not had a posting regardng the issue.
So again the saying of 'no smoke with fire' comes true, but I have yet to read a newspaper article that puts the presence of military & Yaya in the area at the same time...

| I am not suprised that Jammeh is not showing up at the AU meeting. He knows that this issue will come and he wil do anything to avoide it. He has no explaination besides being a cold murder. I agree, Ghana should sue him, they should do everything they can to get to the botton of this. Jammeh is destroying the nation, he is ruining every good relationship gambia has with other countries. I was so mad when I read about the killings. I am from Brufut and know about the great relationship and good harmony there was between the gambians and the ghanians. I couldn´t help it thinking how insicure they must feel in gambia at the time not to mention how angry, sad and disapointed the ghanians must have been. |
