I follow all your postings and I am facinated with your knowledge of the history of Gambia. I have just read an article and a reference was made about Fodee Silla of Gunjur. Please could you give me any information about this gentelman.I was born in Bathurst and am trying to gain an undrstanding of my birthplace. Tom
DR thomas , i will throw a small thing here about Foday Sillah or kombo Sillah as he is famously known. he was a scholar at his time who embark on the spreading of islam to the soninke members of the kombos .he preach and some times the different areas he visited will try to stop his movement then a fight will take place. he was very peaceful as compared to the other earlier scholars. he was well learned and he occassionally engage in fights with the westerners spreading colonial rule. alpha kondo will do us a favour by telling us more about Foday Sillah.
