Good thoughts brothers.
It is gratifying that you all have taken much interest to think not just about the words BURR, MANSA, or PRESIDENT. This is a positive exchange. What we are running away from is the danger where men like Jammeh take situations out of context. In traditional settings, we hear the word ALKALI, ALKALO, JARGA (not sure if that is right for Fula equivalent, please correct.) By traditional standards, when an ALKALO dies, the community extends the role to next senior person in that family. That was also applicable with position of CHIEF, CHEF, SEYFO. Until this day, that is holding in some places. Though voting is organised, some chiefs are partly on the traditional order of succession. An example is Georgetown. Back to the PRESIDENT BURR/MANSA contrast, the issue is not so much about translation. It is about CONTEXT. If Jammeh understands and respects that his is not a natural succession but a political transitory process, that's fair enough. The present hold is that we as citizens expect a transitory political position. The man on the seat is bending us to accept it as a life of luck to be BURR/MANSA. Do you see the point. It is certainly not a bitter argument. We need putting things in proper perspective. If Jammeh is not ready to accept the preferred standards, then he is not for us. It is good to start with Jammeh so that when Bread Man or any of you good lot becomes PRESIDENT, you accept your obligations and limitations. That is where Jammeh is failing woefully !! |

"If Jammeh understands and respects that his is not a natural succession but a political transitory process, that's fair enough". Brotherman, did you forget july 22nd 1994? The ak 47s on the streets. Think about been 29 years with a high school certificate and become president of The Gambia that was ruined for ages before independence and decades after independence under Jawara. You see brotherman, Jammeh inherited an impossible task and reasoning with the so called system of democratic norm in The Gambia at that time with mentions of five year development programs that never happened, Jammeh was bound to be aggressive in his crave for development. So I still will call him Buur Gambia untill Bro Karamba comes up with another word in wollof that befits his possition as president. |
It is the mark of intelligence to entertain an idea without accepting it. |

| Even though, Jammeh is not fit for purpose to be our Burr, but calling him that from the Language point of view am with Breadman as far as the situation is concern at the moment, bro Karamba. . I agree you that, the man has not right to the seat by natural succession and no one has anyway. Well for him being the big fool taking the situation out of context is another thing. Just remember i am not for Jammeh in a million years and will never be. If possible, i want him out in the next 24 hrs. |

Bro santangfara, I didn´t hear anything that does not represent Jammeh´s natural demeanor. You should understand that as the wollofs saying goes "Buur du morromi baadoleh". So he therefore demonstrated his kingly manners and no matter what you think about him, he is the Buur of The Gambia.
The above was my verdict, was´nt that enough??
Breadman thats not enough as far am concern. Bad publicity, lack of good statesmanship, propaganda and MAGING GAMBIA ANOTHER HOST NATION FOR AIDS is not impressive. Other countries have more to do with AIDS than us either POLITICALLY AND FOR WORLD HEALTH. Think about the bigger picture than focusing in promoting an INDIVIDUAL. Continue showering PRAISE SINGING for "BURR GAMBIA". Jawara was there and now a commoner as no condition is permanent.
Thanks for your VERDICT
Rejoinder! Karamba and Karl were on the same wave lenghts on ealier postings about "BURR GAMBIA", in my opinion.
However, to further clarify on our vernacular and direct translations of certain words being used as expressions etc. To come to "Burr Gambia" and the wollof expression of finding out WHO IS? or WHETHER IT FITS SOMEBODY? Am directly translating that it fits appropriately in wollof vernacular to cap Jammeh as MODERN "BURR GAMBIA". "KERR BURR" or "KERR NGURR" or "NGURGI" refres to GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS OFFICIALLY as there is nothing more close to them.
For Breadman "You should understand that as the wollofs saying goes "Buur du morromi baadoleh". So he therefore demonstrated his kingly manners and no matter what you think about him, he is the Buur of The Gambia.".
"Burr du morromi baadoleh" = CLASSIFY BETWEEN AUTHORITY (SUPERIOR) AND SUBJECTS (SURBORDINATES)in wollof CRUDE DESCRIPTION OF KINGSHIP AND SUBJECTS or those being GOVERN. This is about CLASS SYSTEM promoted by PRAISE SINGERS to degrade others and promote AN AUTHORITY KIND OF PRIVELEGE. Under THE CONSTITUTION ALLCITIZENS ARE EQUAL BEFORE THE LAW & CONSITUTION.
Jammeh is no KING but thats part of our tragedic crude traditions to easily transform someone with MYSTICISMS, POWER, AUTHORITY AND CLASS and CONDITIONAL ON MONEY, MONEY, MONEY! Thats why Jammeh has DECLARED HE KNEW THOSE WHO ARE AFTER HIS MONEY!!!

| Fols lets call a spade a spade. What power does Kings have that Jammeh does not? The defacto constitution is what he says it is and no one can question him. The quicker we get over that the better. Afterall, he is just a tyrant, Oops! shall I say the DEFACTOR DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT of Gambia who will one day answer for his crimes. |
