whatever they said about the gambia may be misguided but the issue shouldn't be re-directed into racism and so on. we have different culture but our islamic way should not be contradictory with our culture and to be truthful some of what they say is true. accept truth even if it is against your own self. some of our elders build houses round saints .this can be found all over the place .in u.r.d a village call touba kutoto have a saint call senmoto kemo who is venerated . in numuyele .kanbisara ,bansang ,kuntaur ,tuba koto and many other places .houses are build round those deseased persons for what ? this is not just in the gambia but heavly in senegal .touba is a prime example. this things are clearly marked shirk .let us not get worked up just because the writer is checnian or non-gambian. we do lots of things which is against our faith .we need to look into our self and compair our actions .whatever some one else does which is bad is up to him and his maker .the over spending in weddings ,naming ceremories ,funerals etc is mostly out of the regulations of the deem. the rate of teeange pregnancy is high .some imams usually refuse to attend just occasions but others do .yet we claim we are secular muslims. who are we deciveing ? i don't mind who critise me ,whether gambians ,malian ,senegalise .it doesn't matter. the fact is prostitution is happening in the gambia ,true or false ? houses are build round some socall saints ,true or false ? analyse the writers point in a factual manner and then rebut .but being emotional ,well that is not the answer.no hidding ,let face the fact. the checnians have there own down side ,so do a critical analysis of them .but take out race. |

This article gives amateur Journalism a bad name. Primary school children could do a better job. This article would be definitely band under the Gambia's Media Commission Bill. What a load of rubbish!!

SANTANFARA, I have mentioned some of these acts before. Prostitution is in the gambia is true like wise building houses round some socall saints. We have also the different sekts and they too build houses arround their saints. Even the Murids say it is better to go to Tuba than Mecca. Some of the writers points are facts. In Checnia there are more prostituts than Gambia, but they cant stop it. This I call the pot calling the kettle black. The author is not from Checnia, he is African and just like some of you here a Jammeh opponent. The author is not a better muslim than us not even the Checnians. This is my opinion |

your reactions tell it all . if some one accusse you of some thing ,you try to logically analyse his accussations but am afraid that did not happen. all you alhasan is banging on about here is culture .what is our culture ? what the writer says convey some truth ,so try to deal with that as well .but pointing fingers at mecca and many other places is not the solution. ofcourse some muslim try to do seyara in in mecca but this is not allowed .so that moride is evidently lying . if the writer is a kangaroo journalist i don't care so long we are able to understand what the message was conveying. we have a kangaroo head of state ,why talk about a kangaroo journalist? we need to look into ourself and then make our judgement. some may start to think i have some thing to do with this piece but hey i can't even understand simple french. we are cultural than islamic in our dealings. and some even though that culture is all about some kind of music. |

Brother Santanfara,
If I get it clear, I assume you are raising the argument on the high platform of OBJECTIVE assessment of the statement. It appears that many people do not prefer a diet of objectivity. They rather glue up to SUBJECTIVE conclusions no matter how much error there is. From what I derived you are putting it to us not to get vexed but dig into the statement for facts (of which there are many.) One reason that Gambians need to worry about a president of Jammeh's salt is that he exposes the country to harsh criticisms. Many in the outside world measure Gambian standards by Jammeh as benchmark. Yes, Santanfara, there are lot of facts buried in that article. Being more than a decade with Jammeh as president of Gambia speaks volumes. Rather than blaming critics, it is some times good to be warned by their comments. |

| exactly brother ,i can't put better than that. facts .no one is perfect but our country's name is at stake here. sufi practices are all over the muslim world .in pakistan is even worst in india and many other places. the founders of sufihism don't wish this grave thing and many other to happen but people want cheaper way to heaven like our co-religionist but this is not the islam way. infact the government in england is promoting sufi islam that says is all. there is a money for sufi groups ,if any muslim group join the sufi council of britain you have your share why the sufis ? the message carries some facts. his english may be like mine but he was able to castigate us. very well. |
