Young Tennis Duo Return with Honours By Modou Nyang
Basuruwa Conteh and Yankuba Drammeh the young Gambian representatives in the ITF under 18 junior ranking circuits in Lagos and Cotonou, ranked 31 and 30 respectively. The circuit which involves players from West and Central African regions also included players from Southern Africa, Europe and Asia. The first leg of competition started in Lagos, Nigeria where the boys finished 39 and 41 which qualified them for the second leg in Cotonou, Benin and they upped their performance ranking 31 and 30 respectively in their final drop. According to Sulayman Jobe coach of the two players who accompanied them for the competitions, at the second leg of the circuit in Cotonou the boys performed well losing only at the quarter final stage. Jobe indicated that the performance of the boys were very god especially Yankuba who is 16 but was drafted to play in an under 18 competition. He said: "it is very clear the boys have the potential to move up in their rankings in the next coming competitions as we go ahead, because within two weeks they were able to move up in their ranking so I believe they will play better in the future". Jobe also applauded Slok Air for the support they have been rendering to the Tennis Federation, noting that without their support they would not have been able to participate in this particular competition.
