What a beautiful, wonderful, and brilliant idea. Great minds and hearts still do exist theefore "AR JARAMA. But there is just one or two things I probably would want you to shade more light on and this are, after uniting all Gambians, then what next?. Secondly you said, quote " this is not about yaya ,so keep your lord out this". Then if I may ask, what is this unification of all Gambians about?. I think the cherish wish of every Gambian, is to see a better sitting, more stable, reliable, democratic, and a just government prevail in the Gambia.I'm still thinking and wondering how can these above stated requirements or expectations if you like be attained without atleast to some extent have nothing to do with Yaya. Splease, don't take it personal I just want a lttle more clearification on this great idea of yours.

ksannah , i made that remark against breadman's statement .ofcourse aprc supporters are part of the poplitical process in the gambia. what i was saying is ,breadman said that it shouldn't be a comference to undermine yaya's regime. to this i said we are all with good intentions and yaya is not the main issue. gambia is not yaya and uniting gambians shouldn't always revolve arround the cult of yaya .that is what i mean. if any body wish to cast your vote for yaya ,you are more than welcome to do that.the fabrick of multi-party democracy is weak in the gambia and we want proper checks and balances to be in place and a credible and viable oppossion. without any such thing ,the government will infact become one party state ..which will lead to the types of things we are seeing in the gambia.

Dalton, could you post the "initial proposal to unite gambians." From what I am reading it seems you only posted Gainako's response or shall I say pledge to work towards achieving the said goal(the way forward).

Pal,

i will cull it from the Gpost and post it later. The proposal was initiated by Haruna Darboe. It is our hope that once the diaspora is galvanized , they can unite the opposition. it's the unity package. no one left behind.

Ksanneh, i only said it is not about me (Yero). Of course, if not for the wolf, Jammeh, who else?

Momodou et all,

The package like rightly debated here is to stir some forces that will eventually make the oppositions at home come as one with an independent committee in sideline to them. We will update every part of it.

Thanks for all the wonderful endorsements from all contributors. We can do it wholly.

Coleagues and fellow citizens,

I had not heard from Musa Jeng on my invitation to partner with Dr. Saine to explore a "Way Forward". So I had to complete that task without Musa. I hope that as we plug along in national enterprise, Musa will find it useful to join us at a later date.

I had occasion to speak with Dr. Saine at length. I had intended to make contact and acquaint myself better with Dr. Saine, but we both could not resist the temptation to plunge right into how we can move the national conversation forward. Amat, Dr. Saine extends his regards.

Dr. Saine and I have come to the realisation that our failure in not yielding a coalition/alliance of opposition parties that can be supported by the funds raised is behind us. We are resolved to begin again having learned from past mistakes.

Dr. Saine shares that one way to begin again could be a Conference of citizens aimed at re-uniting disparate interests for the common goal of ridding ourselves of Yahya. I shared with the doctor that one of our coleagues at Ellen or the Mighty had also advanced that idea and that I think it valuable to our efforts in national enterprise.

Therefore, we are both resolved, as I'm sure most of our fellow citizens and coleagues here are, not to abandon pursuit in national enterprise for error or failure. Dr. Saine has advised that it will be counterproductive to begin again under either STGF or STGDP because they characterised disparate loyalties and interests and we are likely to open old wounds that got us nowhere. I had shared with Dr. Saine that the idea of STGF was a wonderful one and with his permission, we can begin where he solicited conversation to refine that idea. However, I will yield to Dr. Saine's advice because he corroborated his fear with anecdotes of his personal experiences which I was not aware of prior. I think he is right that when we begin, we must turn over a new leaf, and that a national conference will serve as the catalyst for that transformation.

Therefore, I wish to suggest to any of our coleagues who is so inclined to coordinate a conference of national enterprise. I forget who it was that first suggested the idea but if that fellow citizen is within earshot of this note, it would be valuable if he could organise such a conference. Dr. Saine has agreed to present himself at such a conference and I will definitely be present. Any fellow citizen could organise such a conference and advertise it. I pledge my full support of a conference and any assistance I can provide to make it a reality. I hope we can have a volunteer who will be assisted by all and sundry.

Thank you for your audience and I look for your favourable consideration.

Haruna Darbo.

Brother Gajigo,

Thank you for the reply. I understand you are busy with your doctorate program and thank you for the sincerity and honesty you share with us that the time simply is not there for you to devote to such an important national endeavour. All the same, we honour you and wish you success in your studies. We look forward to your company when you are able. There will always be a place for you at the national table for you are our fellow citizen.

Respectfully,
Haruna Darbo.

Haruna,

I intended to respond to this email but it quickly moved down the list in my
inbox. It is a great idea to begin the process of trying to form some new
coalition.

However, my existing commitment would not allow me to devote the necessary
time to such an effort. Such an important project deserve more than that.
But I'm sure there are enough Gambians around here qualified enough to form
such a group and begin the process. I wish them the best of luck.

THanks,

Ousman

It is widely agreed that Dr. Saine's proposition in Save The Gambia Fund
was
a marvelous idea that could not have come at a more opportune time in our
lives as his fellow citizens. I understand that we may have missed the
opportunities of epochal advantage and the chagrin that has yielded among
us. However, a good idea aimed at national enterprise is not absolutely
time-sensitive. I submit that the idea of STGF is still valid and will be
valid for some time to come.

Musa, my friend, I wish to invite you to lunch meeting at a time and place
of your convenience to review the values of STGF and attempt to rekindle
Dr.
Saine's interest in partnering with us to advance the idea with him.
Please
let me know here if you are amenable to such a meeting and advise me of a
time and place and I will present myself.

I propose that a committee of fellow citizens be formed (8 Gambians) to
maintain hope and courage among our opposition leaders (UDP, NRP, PDOIS,
PPP, and NDAM). This committee should refrain from negotiating for any of
the parties and must only communicate with the leaders at scheduled dates
and times and with all members present. I propose some names for this
committee unless otherwise informed:

El Hadj. Habib Mbye
Ousman Gajigo
Dave Manneh
Momodou Sidibe
Omar Joof
Sanusi Owens
D.A. Jawo
Njok Malik

Gentlemen, please inform us if you are interested in working with your
coleagues and form yourselves into a unit for such purpose. Musa Jeng
(hopefully), myself, and Dr. Saine will be working on regrouping under the
auspices of STGF.

Nothing in this world should be entertained without deadline otherwise it
is
not important enough. So Musa I urge you to express your interest or
non-interest in the meeting by the weekend in order that I may schedule
myself accordingly. The over-arching goal is to yield a coalescing of
opposition fortunes by June end. The form of that coalition will be the
domain of the opposition parties concerned. Our efforts will not obviate
the
formation of a new party or the dissolution of an existing party or
re-alignment of persons in parties. In our capacities in diasporan
committees, we will not and should not recommend operational guidelines
for
any party. We will leave that to the constituents of the parties and their
executive committees. Where a union of two or more parties is possible, we
will encourage that. Where a division of two or more parties is imminent,
we
will discourage that. All without pressure, coercion, or deceit.

I hope Musa, Dr. Saine, and or myself can come back here within a week and
update our coleagues on our demarche. Thank you one and all and I look
forward to your favourable consideration.

Haruna Darbo.

Yero,

You may like to choose one of the Gainako crew to coordinate location and panelists.

I pledge $3000.00 for your coordinator to put the panelists together, choose a date, secure a location, draw up an agenda, and secure means for general citizen participation either through mediacast or teleconference. Those citizens who can't make it to the conference venue.

I notice Dr. Nyang, Langley, and LJD are here with us. It would be terrific if their time would allow them to be on your panel. Just some ideas. Lemme know Lemme know.

Haruna.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Definitely a chance to bring Gambians together for a way forward despite our differences.

Count me in as definite advocate of such a progressive conference.

With our differences aside, it is my belief that anything is possible given the resource pool of brilliant Gambians in both the diaspora and at home.

I see it as a good occasion to engage Gambians from all over including the APRC governmentl.

Haruna and Yero
It is a good suggestion and I think Yero need the support to work on the logistic. It is only a national conference that is needed for the way forward. We are all let down by our politicians. I no longer want to comment on issues because my active involvement for liberal democracy and civil liberty in that country is eroded. A call for National Unity Conference is so urgent!

Lekbi,

I like the way you think sometimes. Very enterprising. I told your brother as much when I saw him last. Yero, if there's ever a good time to die, I'm ready to go. How about yew??? (Rocco Mediate fancies Taiga). Hard luck Rocco. Maybe next time.

Best Regards,

Haruna and Yero
It is a good suggestion and I think Yero need the support to work on the logistic. It is only a national conference that is needed for the way forward. We are all let down by our politicians. I no longer want to comment on issues because my active involvement for liberal democracy and civil liberty in that country is eroded. A call for National Unity Conference is so urgent!

Yero,

You may like to choose one of the Gainako crew to coordinate location and
panelists.

I pledge $3000.00 for your coordinator to put the panelists together, choose
a date, secure a location, draw up an agenda, and secure means for general
citizen participation either through mediacast or teleconference. Those
citizens who can't make it to the conference venue.

I notice Dr. Nyang, Langley, and LJD are here with us. It would be terrific
if their time would allow them to be on your panel. Just some ideas. Lemme
know Lemme know.

Haruna.
