THE WAY FORWARD

Mr. Haruna Darboe & all Gambian Compatriots,

After a consultation with my colleagues both at the technical and the editing room, the proposal to unite Gambians is fully endorsed by Gainako. We therefore unanimously agreed to shoulder the load in view of uniting all Gambians irrespective of one's political affiliation, religious belief or ethnicity.

The following is what is at our disposal:

1. We can carry all pieces to do with the unification process.
2. We can interview any of the committee members as per request and necessity.
3. We can interview any of the political leaders back home.
4. We can share information wholeheartedly with all forums and Newspapers.
5. We can advertise, promote all the agendas of such a process.
6. We can advertise freely to raise funds for such an agenda.
7. We can provide an e-mail box specifically for suggestions and comments.
8. We can host a medium for donation; e.g. through pay pal.
9. We will not take credit or ownership to any success; rather it is all of us.

We intend to do this much to preserve our editorial independence and to avoid reducing the paper to merely a partisan forum. While we all have our sides of political support, but that the paper is meant to be nonpartisan. With regards to the hosting of panelists, we agreed that it should be done through a telephone conference which can be very affordable. We are ready to promote this at any level including giving full coverage of such telephone conferences. We will be available to interact with all Gambian intellectuals who want to add their voice to this agenda.

While committing to the above, we want to openly say we cannot do this alone. We therefore call on all Gambians to join the struggle regardless of age, sex, tribe or geographical location. The Gambia belongs to all of us. No one should be left behind, and no one should slack behind.

While making this pledge, we also seek refuge in Almighty God from every evil omen foreseen and unseen in it. We pray that He (Almighty) never make us the route for division, rather a home for unity.

If the above is endorsed by all, then we are loaded with a spirit that cannot be scattered by the enemies of freedom and liberty. We wish all Gambians well, and we look forward to serving our part in the struggle without fear or favor. All undertakings will be done in good faith without expecting anything in reciprocal. We are open to comments, suggestions and constructive criticism.

“There is no turning back.” Halifa Sallah, Gambian sociologist. (2006)

Long live the Gambia and her friends!!
Long live all Gambian compatriots!!!

Sincerely,
GON.

This is a great initiative Dalton and the Gianako crew. The process to move forward has to be started somewhere and you have now taken the lead. Many including my humble self are disillusioned after the recent failures of the opposition to unite but your move might give us a new hope. A national conference with all stakeholders is a necessity.

I hope your prayers are answered by the Almighty.

Brother Dalton, a great idea and just as you said that it is non partisan, count me in too. I hope it is only geared to some form of developement and not another effort to undermine the Jammeh regime. I am truely for your idea and please ellaborate more.

It is the mark of intelligence to entertain an idea without accepting it.

Brilliant idea! But my concern is whether in history, Diasporeans has ever dislodged a sitting president in africa(or anywhere in the world) especially the one who has ruled for over a decade?I think Gambians on the ground are the best bet.It seems to me that politics in Africa especially in the Gambia is defined by multiples of factors that are embedded within the society. Those societal factors needs to be eradicated for any political ideal to be a success. This reminds me of Sidia and Halifa. With all their brilliance we are still at square one. Some might argue that we have moved a little bit but if that is the case why on earth a political conscious minds will denied Halifa a parlimentary seat in such a poverty ridden society ? Our political thoughts are defined by our environment.I think for us to moved forward, our thoughts has to defined our political environment. It seems we are a bit far from that age.Its scary.

In favour of the idea but can it works? Lets try.

Already people, without noticing we are in the center of unity.

Having said the above, it’s not Yero or Haruna. It’s us Gambians. For the package to work, it must be all of us. With Haruna’s pledge of $3000.00, we will do everything possible to make it work.

I thank you all for endorsing the idea. While the process needs to be gradual, it also must go though all the challenges. Everyone should forward their ideas especially in the area of logistic. We have great technocrats among us who can help us in every angle.

We already identified a technical man to work on the conferencing materials. He is looking at the following.

-Teleconference
-Internet radio
-Videoconference

At this time, the green light is on for our intellectuals to forward their names as panelists, or that they are identified by participants. The other questions that come to mind, how soon do we want this to happen? Do we want it hosted in one state or country? Also the opposition leaders on the ground should be alerted on this unity package.

I humbly join those that are ready to be readier.

NB: We are looking at success. Real care must be taken to avoid making it the "kiang-planoo" deal.

What a beautiful, wonderful, and brilliant idea. Great minds and hearts still do exist theefore "AR JARAMA. But there is just one or two things I probably would want you to shade more light on and this are, after uniting all Gambians, then what next?. Secondly you said, quote " this is not about yaya ,so keep your lord out this". Then if I may ask, what is this unification of all Gambians about?. I think the cherish wish of every Gambian, is to see a better sitting, more stable, reliable, democratic, and a just government prevail in the Gambia.I'm still thinking and wondering how can these above stated requirements or expectations if you like be attained without atleast to some extent have nothing to do with Yaya. Splease, don't take it personal I just want a lttle more clearification on this great idea of yours.
