Jambo - better whisper 'sab' to the person sitting next to you on the flight - see if there is a reaction! |

2007 and Gambia. Well a week is a long time on Bantaba!!! My plans have changed completely and may change again. Since back in UK I have come back down to earth and had a BIG reality check. I am not getting married. I am not converting to Muslim. I am not buying a property in Gambia or renting a house for my boyfriend.
My Shirley Valentine moment of midlife crisis is well and truely over. I still love the Gambian man in my life and I will always have a place for him in my heart. BUT my family in UK and my life here has to come first. This is where I spend 90% of my time.
My plan for 2007 is to concentrate on selling my house in UK and downsizing. In Gambia I plan to continue to support the children I help and Kolior nursery. I am hoping to continue my support for SIdou Mass to complete his teacher training too.
I am not planning on going back to Gambia until November now. I need that breathing space. In November I go with the students from Beacon Community College in East Sussex and my daughter will come with me for the first time. I am very excited about that.
I would like to spend some time in August in Gambia to experience the raining season. But it depends if I can move house before then.
So, as I say, in the space of a week I have had a big reality check.
One day I would like to spend a whole year in Gambia to experience all the changes. But if I do that I would rent a house and work in a school too. I am giving up on the dream of owning land and my own place. I cant afford to risk the money.
SENSIBLE BEV IS BACK IN THE HOUSE!!! |

Well.. I am sitting here at my computer smiling a bit, but i wish you all the best with all your plans, really. Once a schoolteacher, always a schoolteacher - so have to ask you this (can't help myself): next time you come back from the Gambia, stay away from Bantaba for a week! |
