Does anyone know the current price for a healthy well fed Ram for the upcoming Tobaski? Someone informed me that a Ram for Tobaski could cost up to D3000. If this is so, how can an average head of a Gambian family can afford such a price

It is between £50 and £60. Alot of families rely on their friends or family abroad to pay for it. Many families make do with a goat instead. SOme families have to rely on the charity of others within the village to share their meat.

I think from now on you will have to spend at least 5000 dal. for 'a healthy, well fed' ram. The closer you come to Tobaski day, the more you will have to pay. It is better to buy the ram much earlier, you could have one at a reasonable price (but then of course you will have to keep it healthy and well fed).

Healthy and well fed ones? I'm sure they will be too expensive!
Anyway, Hong Kong is too far away.

No, seriously - it seems that there are families who can afford a cow for Tobaski, but i personally don't know Gambians who could pay that amount.

True - 3000 up to 6000 Dalasis! Abako is making big money these days!!! Buy it earlier and feed it fat at home is the only advice one can give in this hard time. Allah is well aware of the money making Tobaski market!

Tobaski like Christmas is just a seasonal fluctuation in the economy and household budget. its like going to Mecca, people manage to go through it every year. the cost of a ram has more or less been the same if you correct it with the exchange rate. always about $100!!!

actually the whole point of tobaski is that if you can't afford it , then dont.

Feeding the ram in the kombos is even more expensive. Dont try that route. I was there and it cost me dearly. Hay is very expensive.

Perhaps best to downgrade to a goat than be hungry for the next month!

Or not kill a goat in the first place. Keeping up with the Jones is the biggest problem. It is not compulsory if you dont have any money to buy.
