Janky, I heard that the Brikama- soma road is in terrible shape. Most people traveling to Basse are going through Badibu. Manduar...nice people. I worked there for the PIEC in 1996. The Alikalo (Pa Kawsu) was a very gracious host. |

I travelled from Coast to Tendaba. It took about 4 hours. You NEED 4 wheel drive. The road has worsened in the past year due to the heavy rains.
I am not sure where abouts the place you mentioned is in relation to Tendaba?
I think it is worth the journey!! |

I have heard ther north bank rd is better. When I go to Wassu and Georgetown next year I will go on the ferry and then travel on the north bank rd.
I think a brilliant development for Gambia would be small airfields near Soma etc..... miss out the roads altogether!!! |

Thank you for you information. I have been to Gambia several times, my husband of 5yrs is Gambian, and I wanted to go to Kiang Manduar to see where he was born. Each time I try to find out the travelling time and state of the roads I just get told that it is very bad and takes approx 6 hours. I love Gambia and the Gambian people and seriously want to see more of the country. I know that some roads are very bad and do understand that this is a major problem in Gambia. I personally believe that if the roads were in a better condition then the people of this wondderful country could travel to differant parts of Gambia to sell their wares and improve their lives. One thing I have learnt is that the children crave schooling yet children in this country take everything for granted and DON'T appreciate what they have. I'm sure they will one day. |
